20g turbo question?

I just got a 20 g turbo from a friend of mine, says it has about 1500 hundred miles on it. What all do I need to do to my car before I can put it on? What can I use to clean the turbo up a little? Its got some coolant residue on it. Thanks a bunch

you'd need an up-pipe, downpipe, 700cc or better fuel injectors, upgraded fuel pump, upgraded intercooler, tune etc.

The tranny will be fine depending on driving habits. But like Matt suggested all those parts, plus a 3 port BCS, and maybe, just maybe an intake. Check out my profile for a parts run down, I run a 20G and love it.

You're nowhere near 20G ready. Aside from supporting mods (intake, downpipe, intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, up-pipe, motor mounts, clutch, and suspension and brakes that can support this power.) being an issue, a 20G is going to be the deathblow to not only your transmission but your engine as well.

True enough, but he is more likely to break it attempting a 3rd gear pull than a 1st gear launch with that amount of power.

Complete truth here!...when my trans blew it was third gear that broke (although I rarely launched on the stock trans/green combo)

There are plenty of options out there. Whats your budget? Theres the STI 6-spd, then a plethora of 5spd options (PPG, Par, Albins, RA, LGT gears, MFactory, DS1....and maybe some more). My car just got an Albins gearset put in 1-5 helical cut, stock ratio. It will hold my 20G and then some (the shop said, and from my research seems adequate). But I havent got to drive the car since the build.
