2 ques./Boost creep

Hi all first post here i believe (been reading a lot though, great site!) I own a stock 05 sti, and was curious if i have to be worried about "boost creep" if i a turbo back exhaust?? (my friends own some DSM's and they tell me how they get boost creep) Next question...Anyone know of any cheap weight reduction stuff, or some ideas of putting my sti on a diet?
Thanks all in advance, once again great site.

Some people claim they have horrible boost creep problems with a turbo back. Some never have any problems. As far as I can tell, the problems don't seem to stem from any certain brand exhaust though. However, I have heard of very few boost creep issues with an 05. Most seem to be on 04's. That could be because there aren't many modified 05's out there however.

Boost creep on the STi is a direct result of the crap design on the wastegate port in the VF39. The only way people are able to quench it is to do a slight port job on the inside of the turbo. What some people do is tune around the creep and use the # that it spikes to as their maximum boost. That's a poor bandaid to me.

What I did

I had the boost creep problem on my 05 Sti after getting a Perrin DP and HKS Carbon Ti exhaust. It sucks. The way I was told to fix it, and is the best I believe, was with the UTec and a port of the wastegate. No problems now. As for weight reduction, don't worry, you should be blowing the lids of cars any how...

Would boost creep be an issue on an 02/03 WRX with a full turbo 3" turbo back + uppipe?

Thanks,

Mark

No. It's the VF39 turbo on the STi that is the issue.

Lighter wheels, lighter rotors, remove spare tire and tools, lighter down pipe and exhaust, remove STI wing. That should be a good start.

oh and I have sugestions for the weight reduction. carbon fiber hood and trunk. loose un-needed stuff [backseat, spare tires, etc...] after market frint seats may be lighter also. if you're really hard up take out the radio, speakers, and A/C compressor and coils [you'll have to put a shorter serpentine belt on] are you gonna rally cross it?
