Unhappy 18g Setup - Questions

I want to go with an 18g setup for my 2.0 turbo rex.

1. Will I need to go with a front mount intercooler (FMI)?

2. What size injectors would work best?

3. Would it be wise to go with an AccessPort or OpenSource?

4. What optional mods should I get that aren't required?

5. My most important question:
What would be the total cost of parts (not labor) with minimal modifications that are absolutely necessary?

6. What would be the total cost of parts (not labor) with a reliable setup for 18g?

7. Cost of tuning and what's a good place in Stockton, Ca or surrounding areas?

1. Will I need to go with a front mount intercooler (FMI)? No, a large TMIC will do.
2. What size injectors would work best? 750cc+
3. Would it be wise to go with an AccessPort or OpenSource? Depends what your tuner says.4. What optional mods should I get that aren't required? Turbo inlet, intake of some sort.
5. My most important question:
What would be the total cost of parts (not labor) with minimal modifications that are absolutely necessary? Depends on turbo,inj,IC,pump,3port and tune +/- 3500K 6. What would be the total cost of parts (not labor) with a reliable setup for 18g? see above
7. Cost of tuning and what's a good place in Stockton, Ca or surrounding areas? Tune will run $300-$400 +/-
Are you sure you want an 18G?

brfatal is absolutely right. What is your current mod list? Let me see if I can give a little more detail.

1. Will I need to go with a front mount intercooler (FMI)?
No, but you need to upgrade your top mount. I'd say anything larger than an 20g or 350whp you should go FMIC.

2. What size injectors would work best?
Minimum 650cc. No more than 800cc. I'd probably settle on 700-750cc unless you can find a better price on the lower or top range.
Quote:
3. Would it be wise to go with an AccessPort or OpenSource?
Depends what your tuner is more comfortable with.

4. What optional mods should I get that aren't required?
I recommend an aftermarket inlet hose. It's a good gain for the price. Stick with silicon if you don't want the headaches that come with installing a hard inlet hose.. ask me how I know.

5. My most important question:
What would be the total cost of parts (not labor) with minimal modifications that are absolutely necessary?
Well, that depends. Do you already have a turboback exhaust system and and uppipe? Minimum is that, turbo, tmic, injectors, and the tune. You're looking at $1800-2500 depending if you get used, deals, and brands. That's assuming you have an exhaust system.

6. What would be the total cost of parts (not labor) with a reliable setup for 18g?
I'd say about the same. Reliability comes down to quality of parts, the quality of the install, and if you have a good tuner (and mileage). Keep in mind. 18g will put your car around the 280-320whp range. This is in the danger zone for our transmissions and clutches. You can't just beat down on the car and expect things to survive.

7. Cost of tuning and what's a good place in Stockton, Ca or surrounding areas?
Can't answer that question for you. Maybe someone local can.

I'm completely stock except I have a gReddy turbo timer that came with the car.
It's a stupid little thing that just blinks according to my speed. It's for show apparently. I hate it and want to remove it.

Yes, I'm sure I want to go 18g. I will need to save up for the setup, and hopefully a stronger transmission.

An 06-07 2,4 POT swap won't run you too much used.

Turbo timers can be useful (if it's hooked up as a boost gauge)

Are you sure that going that far in 1 leap is a good idea? You haven't even experienced stage 2 yet.

and you don't even need a brake kit, the factory calipers are decent when you put in a nice set of pads with some new rotors and SS Lines and real good brake fluid.

Haha, my bad. I answered that from my phone so the quote box made it hard to see your post. Glad we're on the same page tho. Forgot to mention fuel pump.

I'm going to get an AP
Then go Stage 1
Then Stage 2
Then make the leap to 18g

Going to the Bay Area is a bit much for me and I need to speak with a knowledgeable tuner. Maybe I should give an old fashion ring and speak with them or maybe they'd be too busy to give free answers?

Get in good with a tuner there. Maybe by email. One of the reasons for taking it in steps like you mentioned before. You WILL get to know people.
