03 uppipe removal tips

so im going to be doing an uppipe downpipe install and was wondering if you guys have any tips on how to remove the stock uppipe and downpipe as painless as possible. also would a 1 inch 02 sensor spacer fit when the new downpipe is installed? -thanks

UP-On some cars, jacking the engine up a little helps to give you a little room. I had to remove the motor mounts when helping a friend a few years ago to get enough room. Spray the bolts with PB blaster a few hours/if not a day before you do it.

DP-Spray the nuts on this like above. Get a good o2 sensor socket ahead of time.

What do you mean a spacer? On the o2 bung?

My buddy put a (spacer) on his tc when he turbocharged it to help keep his cel from appearing. As for, will one fit or do you need one.? I don't see a need with proper tune.

When I did my up pipe, I was able to just jack up on my engine a bit without taking off my mounts, and got just enough play to work with. Beware of the heat shields though. They were the most stubborn rusted out pain in the ass bolts I have ever dealt with.
As little as a pipe it is, it takes the pefect angle to get it in place just right.

I wouldn't recommend doing it this way but I did mine from the top.(removed intercooler, and turbo.) Took about 6 hours total but to each his own...

Ps. Save a headache and buy a grimspeed 2x thick gasket for the up-mani flange.

Like they said... I didn't even have to unbolt my engine mounts (OEM), they had enough slop in them that I could move the engine about 3/4" out of the way.

It's really not a tough job. I had the downpipe, headers, up pipe out in about an hour, and had it all back together in after two and a half hours total with an external wastegate.

pzr2874- yea, the fouler to avoid the check engine.

blaze2099- thanks!

bad grocerygetter- i got the oem gaskets since turboxs recommends using those. should i go with the grimmspeeds instead?

rcrswetdream- did u soak all the bolts with pb or wd-40 before you started?

where would i put the jack to liftup the engine??

Not so sure where would be the correct spot.
I think I got dangerously risky and said F it, than proceeded to use my oil pan.:eek: - I am NOT recommending this as a good idea.

yea i wouldnt want to risk a big hole in my oil pan plus oil everywhere !Notfunny!

Yeah I would. It's made the same as the oem but thicker. I wanna say 12 layers... Lots better.
