Question 03 Gates Performance Timing Belt Kit....

Well I was wondering why these kits are so rare? me and a buddy was looking up kits and couldnt find anything for the 03. I was gonna just purchase the kit for the 04 instead. But today I got on the website looking around and found the real part #. Before we was going to order TCKWP328RB which is for the 04+ Sti. Found the real # tho and its TCKWP328ARB. Well anyways i googled it and only like 3 sites pop up. Seriously???? Anyone have any input on everything like waterpump is needed too? what would you recommend for 03 WRX?

Just looking for help and some input would be nice so dont bash me

I just got an email saying that JSCSpeed.com is offering 12% off Gates belts, water pumps, and pulleys from 2/14/12 - 2/29/12 if you use coupon code: GetGates. I got my goodies (all pulleys, tensioner, timing belt, water pump, gaskets/hardware, thermostat, etc.) from RallySportDirect.com a while back using a similar coupon that was emailed to me. You might want to avoid using the Gates racing blue belt since the color can rub off on the pulleys and cause them to slip. I bought an OEM replacement black belt for mine.

They aren't rare. I have used at least 4 of them on 4 different builds. They are a nice kit to.

nice to know that the color will wear off onto pulleys! maybe ill just go with the gates oem belts... but i know gates kits arent rare, but i can only find like 2 or 3 sites that sell the exact kit # i stated above which is for the 03 WRX. why aren't more websites selling them is all im asking. or is the number i found on gates website wrong somehow?

^^Have people really had problems with the color rubbing off causing slipping, because I have the blue one and I don't see any signs of color transfer or even loss for that matter?

I don't have to be mad to punch someone in the face!

Actually, I take my statement about slippage back - I just did some brief reading and it appears as though the blue doesn't specifically cause slippage, but rather it just wears off and can cause some chips to appear inside the timing belt case. Supposedly, the blue is just a coating to differentiate the Gates belt vs. others and it's not a dye that's actually integrated into the belt itself, so there's no real performance to be lost. Many people successfully use them, but others are still concerned about the paint wearing off. Some people complained about squeaking and others commented that the fact that it's slightly thicker won't work with some aftermarket guides. Anyway, I personally think it's one of those parts that should be a direct OEM replacement.
