02 wrx Upgrading Questions

Hi everyone. I'm new to the upgrading, so I'd love it if you could help me out. I'm a little confused to if I should purchase a Stage 2 performance package or if I should purchase the pieces separately? The package I was looking at comes with AP, Catless DP, Catback and UP. What brand does everyone like? Do I actually need an AP? I've seen some people saying that they're not really needed. Sorry for the shot gunning of questions, but I finally have the extra cash and I want to get the car upgraded, I feel sad running stock. lol. Also if you can think of anything else I should upgrade while I'm at it, feel free to lmk. Thanks!

I'm going to break this down in the order you asked the questions
1) Packages are nice and usually a bit cheaper but you can buy the pieces individually if you would like a different group of parts
a) Though when ever you install parts you must get a tune

2) I prefer basically any brand that isn't Cobb (personal hatred from years ago) or Ebay (because they are shit)

3) No you do not actually need an AP, it provides no function that cannot be replaced by any laptop with a USB port and a 15 dollar cable and the laptop can provide so much more, then only thing is you will have to get a protune if you don't have an AP (although if your not running a pre-approved cobb list of parts you would need one anyways)
