the helix uppipe is awesome because its got some flex in it, which allows for perfect fit and no leaking ! that can be had for about 180 i think !

I suggest either the Helix uppipe or TurboXS uppipe.

The Helix has a flex joint, so it flexes and prevents leaks.

The TurboXS is made of cast iron (the same material as the exhaust manifold and turbo housing) so it expands and contracts the same as the other pieces around it to prevent leaks.

There are a few Helix uppipes on e-bay. I picked mine up for $125 opened but brand new, with gaskets and studs.

Yeah you can get those uppipes USED for $100 or so. Or pick up a previously gutted uppipe, I see them on NASIOC all the time. Or better yet, get an STi uppipe from the dealer.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with gutting your stock uppipe. Thats insane that you would tell some one that its not ok.
Its the cheapest way of getting a catless up pipe. You can get all the cat out of there no problem, just wear a mask - thats common sense. Dump the contents straight into a trash bag and throw it in your trash can. It dont think there is any asbestos in there but cat material is carcinogenic, so you do have to be careful with the dust.
Its the best possible fit as its a stock part, and it has the best match for thermal expansion properties as its a stock part. I've ran my own gutted up pipe for over 50,000 miles. No problems at all.
There are guides all over the net on how to gut your own up pipe. Its easy, takes about 2 hours to completely remove all the material and add a somewhat polished surface to the interior of the pipe.

Try www.scoobymods.com for a how to guide.

It is more dangerous than spending +-100 bucks on an uppipe. That is the main issue.

That says it all right there. I would not recommend to anyone to do something that is hazardous to their health.

yep I have a catted helix downpipe. The bosal catback didn't fit right, because the downpipe pushed the midpipe down, so there was a little space where exhaust leaked. I had a welding shop cut my mindpipe and resolder it for $20. (I have a 2005 WRX Wagon)

How are the Helix cat-back exhausts? Are they as loud as the others listed? I am looking for a loud exhaust as well.

I was looking at the package of the Helix up and down pipes, with the exhaust for roughly 850. http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/PowerPackages.htm

Ok...

Just to let you know, TurboXS's uppipe isnt made of cast anymore, it is stainless and has a flex joint.
