Anything outside of a td04.... yes, a tune will be needed.

Yes sir. Start looking around on nastysock. Your mechanic is already dead set on it. Save yourself some downtime by finding one used.

The stock TD04 from my 07 WRX is sitting pretty on a shelf in my basement. Let me know if you're in need of one

It's NEVER "nothing"

Try cleaning the area like I stated.

the thing with my problem is that the car runs and boosts fine (i dont have a gauge but u can tell) and there is no loss of performance from what i can see. just getting smoke.

And what I'm telling you is that cars don't smoke for no reason.

Did you come on here asking a question?

yah and i believe u, but it might not have been serious. im thinking sumthin might have gotten in there like oil or antifreeze. also if it happens again i will def take your advice, but im still new at this and dont feel confident enough to do stuff like that myself.

Did you used to have a smoke issue this passed January ?? This isn't the first time.

If oil or antifreeze was somewhere it shouldn't have been.... well...

yah ive been idling it for a little b4 ive been driving it and issue the smoke out the back sort of went away. the car i bought is very moody, it works good when it wants to, other times i get smoke. it hasnt been so bad since i put in the new exhaust tho. when i first got it it had a white smoke come out of the exhaust and engine bay, but i drove it down the road and it just went away the next time i drove it. and like a year later its happening again. car runs and drives mint tho besides that.

Yes, that was one of the things that really baffled me. It was not consistent with respect to driving conditions, outside temperature, or time of day. One night I would see wisps of whitish smoke in a burger joint drive through, and then not again for 2 or 3 weeks until sitting at a stoplight midday. I can't remember it ever happening immediately after a cold start though. The erratic nature of the symptom is what caused me to take off my IC (something that is easily done) and see whatever I could see.
