yet more smoke
so i start getting what i thought was steam due to a rain storm coming from under the scoop and pull over get a bunch of what i figured was just steam, and went away after a while, thought i was fine. i take it out again more "steam" so drive it back and ity turned out to be whitish grey smoke coming from the leftr of the intercooler. it does not do this if i idle it for like 10- 20 minutes, which i have been doing before i drive it to see if it smoked. any ideas of what it could be?

something on the DP or your inlet hose is cracked and blowby is seeping out ??

Just taking stabs.

Better than what I can come up with, it doesn't do it after idling twenty minutes, but I drive down the street a minute or two then I get the smoke. Strange.

So it's only under pressure that it happens?

pzr2874 04-22-2013 05:35 AM

How's your PCV?

BLAZE2099 04-22-2013 06:28 AM

Inlet, and there is a return/ separator line coming from there that runs up along the front of your IC,
I had a leak there once, it doesn't have a lot of oil tho, just something else to check.
You may want to find the build up and clean it off real good with carb of brake cleaner to get a fresh start of where to look. Just an idea

Yah it only smokes when driving. I talked to my mechanic and said it might be the turbo, what u guys think? said i may have blown a seal...

thekamikaze kid 04-22-2013 12:16 PM

ok the smoke is coming from behind the turbo under the heatshield where the downpipe connects, if that helps. (im still learning lol)

pzr2874 04-22-2013 01:44 PM

Could be the turbo.... take the heat shield off (cold)
Clean the area real well with degreaser and water. (cold)
Then start her up the next day (dry) and watch for the location of the phantom smoke

I agree with pauly

thekamikaze kid 04-22-2013 03:38 PM

yeah, i dunno how to do that. (thats y i put this in the newbie thread) i think the main thing is would driving it screw my car up? im on the fence about towing it, it starts smoking literally a minute up the road and the garage i take it to is like ten minutes. hopefully it isnt the turbo cause i cant afford that!

sleepr 04-22-2013 11:09 PM

please take a look at this thread, what you are describing is similar to the symptoms I had when my turbo was on its way out

An easy thing to do is take off your Intercooler and look for oil and oil swirls (see pictures in thread)

thekamikaze kid 04-23-2013 05:11 PM

Thanks for the input guys I think I'm just gonna take it to my mech, just one last question, when Replacing a stock sized turbo would the car need to be tuned at all?

sleepr 04-23-2013 05:46 PM

I hope it is just something minor. Please let us know what the diagnosis is after your mechanic checks it out.

Will do, I'm bringing it tommorow:rocks:
