Just curious how many of you guys out there will wave to other WRX drivers when you pass them on the street? (whether you know them or not) Got the idea for this thread from a different thread posted by i believe Vew?? Anyway just curious ### a lot of guys around here give me really weird looks like i know them or something, when im just trying to be courteous to other sweet machines on the road.
Before the WRX became a popular car for young kids and ricers, the Subaru Community used to wave at every other Subaru on the road. Then came the WRX-effect, where punks and people who never fully understood or respected the history and tradition of the Subaru family came in and totally screwed that all up. So now we have what used to be a normal gesture become something someone has to post a poll about....
Blue, in response to you, it seems as if the tuner fellas/ladies here wave, and the people that dont may be the people who dont appreciate their car the way we do here. Just something I noticed as well. It seems that all the guys around here with tuned WRX's wave to me and the rest with stock looking cars do not.
Yes, I've noticed that most of the people on some form of board wave, either because they have respect for what the Subaru community is, or someone has shown them the light.
But believe me...... things are not as they once were.
See, I didn't used to wave, probably the first 2 weeks I had my car, but I started after that. I even got a wave from some riced out honda over the weekend... I gave a small 2 finger wave, trying to not let the world think I know him.
Anyways, sometimes I still don't wave because I'm still recovering from the awe that a WRX just passed me. Does that happen to any of you guys? It's like a hot chick just entered the room and your jaw drops and your speachless... maybe it's just me

I've noticed lately that most of the people I see in WRX's or STi's don't wave back or acknowledge my "hello" efforts. Sort of makes you not want to wave after a while. But once in a while you get that wave or nod back and it makes it all worth it haha.
Today I was having one of those days. Horrible day at work, was ridiculously hot out, traffic sucked, I was tired from getting crap sleep from the night before, just bad all over. I was going to come home, drink a beer, and go to bed.
Stopped to get gas, was walking back from inside to begin pumping when this kid and his dad were walking out in front of me. Kid, must've been 16 or 17, turned into an 8 year old girl. "DAD DAD THAT'S THE CAR I WANT!! IT'S BAD ASS" yadde yadde yadde. Dad is all "You don't need a 30,000 dollar sports car!" So I do my cocky stride by them towards the car and the kid starts with the million questions. Was a pretty damn fast turn around on how my day was going. Much better than the wave feeling.
I give a wave to just about every Impreza I see and about 75% of the time I get a wave back. I figure if I don't get a wave back they either 1)Didn't see me or 2)Don't know whats going on.
I drove my friends Jeep Wrangler down to the beach this summer and I the first time I passed another Wrangler. The guy waved and I didn't know what was going on. But then I figured it out and I felt so at home. It was great, I don't know of very many vehicles that the owners do that, so I think we should feel special, I know I do.
As for Blue, I don't think you should be bitter about the "WRX-effect". You should be happy that Subaru is getting recognized like it is. As for the Subaru community waving at every passing Subaru, I can't see that happening. And I'll admit, I don't know the history of Subaru, but I don't know where you get off calling me punk. I work my ass off to pay for my car, probably more then most people would even think, so don't try and tell me I'm part of the reason it got screwed up for everyone.
The jeep community, or i should say the Wrangler community (even tho when i think jeep i think wrangler) is very tight. I would say 99% of the people wave when you are driving one, my brother used to have one. Now he has a 350Z
Just bought a wrx wagon the other day and I'm glad I can look forward to the wave. I didn't realize that the wave was part of any other vehicle outside of the wrangler. I used to own one a couple years back and I was extremely disappointed with it, none of those bastards who waved ever stopped to help me when the relatively new piece of shite broke down. (yeh i'm still bitter about owning that thing) Hopefully this rex will treat me good.
I don't wave to every Impreza here in WV because we have a LOT of them up north, especially in Morgantown. Probably every 5 cars you see, atleast one is a Subaru.
Anyways, I was pumping gas on Sunday, just finished driving though a bunch of dirt/mud roads and this truck pulls up to me and asks "Does that thing handle well in the dirt??" I'm just like.. hell yeah

Even though I don't see a whole lot of other WRX's I wave when I do see one. I'd say probably about 60% wave back. There's one guy I pass every morning after work who has a WR Blue one and he always waves. I wave to all Impreza's. I really like waving to the 2.5 RS's because when they wave back it's usually accompanied by a dropped jaw It seems like it's mostly the younger guys that don't wave back (little punks). The ones who always look really mad while driving and the ones that are peering between the steering wheel and the dashboard because their seat is leaned all the way to the back seats. Not sure how they can be mad, for gods sake their driving a WRX, C'MON NOW!!!
