wrx or sti?

i currently dont own a subaru but i am very excited to be buying one soon. my question to you guys is, is there a difference in the block between the sti and the wrx? or would i be better off to save myself the money on the cost of the car and the cost of insurance and not buy the sti and get a wrx, since i intend to keep nothing stock in the motor or tranny except the block? any help i can get i would appreciate. thanks for you time guys

What are your plans for the car. The STI comes with better brakes, suspension, engine and transmission of the bat. But I myself couldnt afford it, so now Im in the process of getting ready (within the year) of building the engine and transmission along with a turbo upgrade. Of course now I could float an STI, but not as much money into it.

Get an STi and you will be glad you did. If you must settle for a wrx see if you can get an 06 and above so you atleast have the 2.5l vs 2.0l block in 05 and older.

Like I said most will tell you STI. In about 12 months I will let you know how well my WRX is doing and how much I have into it for full forged engine, built tranny and upgraded turbo. Im just very happy with my choice and my car, and not letting anyone convince me otherwise. Get what you like AND CAN afford.

if youre worried about cost of insurance, definitely get a wrx. since youll be rebuilding the engine and tranny, id say get a bugeye thats pretty cheap so that way you can maximize your funds for parts and service. i had a bugeye, and that was my plan until i bought my evo

I test drove an '05 STi with 50k miles back to back with an 06 WRX wagon with 20k miles. The STi is a rocket for sure, but the WRX was the premium package and cost $2k less. The STi was noisier and rougher and just not as good a daily driver. The WRX is surprisingly quick and with a stage 2 will be even quicker. I was trading in a lowered Boxster S, so I was used to razor sharp handling and a stiff ride. I took the WRX and am as happy as I could possibly be with it. If you want to build an out and out race car, STi for sure, but for a good, fun, and extremely capable every day car, I'd say WRX. Can you say "stoplight sleeper"?

I bought the WRX because of the average $6,000 difference in price, and I was looking for one that had less than 30,000 miles. VERY happy with my decision, and it really is a stoplight sleeper, in SoCal no one really knows what it is, or can do (specially with the new body style)!!! Ive also heard its easier to find upgrades for the WRX vs. the STI (dont know for sure)

To each his own brother. But upgrades are about the same. Beyond the 08-09 wrx/legacy turbo layout is a little harder to find turbo upgrades for. The 08-09 sti uses the same turbo layout as previous years. But otherwise the parts are normally pretty easy to fit either car. Just the STI is layed out as more performance right off the bat. So, you won't need to upgrade as much.
