wrx or srt

hey guys,so ive been looking at both wrx's and srt-4's. i know you guys would be biased but all in all the srt is cheaper and just a fast. How is the quality on these wrx's. im looking in the 02-05 range. actually my cousin is selling his and would give me a good price on his 03 sonic yellow wrx. However i am a little nervous because it has 9x,000 miles on it and i know he explored the car if you know what i mean. i know he didnt like drop the clutch and lauch it and stuff but he had fun with it. Also, the miles are moslty highway b/c he made constant trips from florida to new york.
As for the car it has an exhaust (not sure which one) aftermarket shocks and springs,cf hood and thats it. Hes told me hed give it to me for 8500 b/c were cousins and he doesnt need the car and he knows i like soobies.

so i dont know what to do please give me suggestions

I do know that Subaru is a great quality car. The srt is STILL a neon, anyway you look at it. Plus the srt's don't handle ANYwhere close to the way these cars do.

Depends on how you want to go fast, in a straight line (srt) or through the curves (wrx). you also have to look at practicality, i.e. I live in CT and we get a good amount of snow so my initial thought of an rx-7 kinda went out the door. Let me just tell you subaru AWD is rediculously good in the snow.

Do you like electric rear windows? If so, decision made.

Do you like cruise control? If so, decision made.

I was actually debating between these two cars (among others) myself when I was preparing to purchase a car. Just evaluate all the pros and cons of each model based upon your own personal needs and wants. If I were you, I would try to avoid taking other peoples' opinions into consideration because every car and every driver is different. Good luck with your decision!

When you put each car side to side you will see that the WRX is much better suited to be a daily driver. More luxuries, better construction, great handling, awesome capability in bad weather, and even in a straight line with a little bit of work a WRX will keep up with an SRT. I dunno if you've ever seen one first hand, but when running fast next to a SRT they look like they're jumping around the road, its just too much power for a FWD system to put down efficiently, a problem that you'll never have with a subaru.

They can put whatever badge or fancy hood on it that they want, at the end of the day its still a neon.

I had a guy go by me (the other way) with an SRT-4, packed full of his friends. and the guy on the PASSENGER side actually reached out with window and gave me the thumbs down. Ignorence.......even if you dont like subarus, you cant deny how great they are. The only thing an SRT has going for it, is that its fast. Like...wow fast

Substitute the word "neon" for "Impreza" and you're saying the same thing in reverse.

The WRX is a fun car to drive. It's not fast in stock form, but the way it handles itself around curves and its mannerisms makes it seem fast. Throw a few slight mods on it and it will be respectably fast.

SRT's have ungodly potential for cheap speed. They also have crappy brakes, and horrible torque steer when you start making that huge power too.

For a DD with some added zip, go with a WRX. If you want something for weekend drag races or whatever, get the SRT.

Vote to ban! J/K

Anyway, speaking from experience in both the SRT-4 and the WRX. If you want traction, go for the WRX. If you like spending money on tires and transmission parts, go for the SRT.

Positives for the SRT:
Good aftermarket support
Fastest production car in its class
Slightly lower insurance than the WRX
Better fuel economy than the WRX
Great acceleration in a straight line
Cheaper initial cost

Positives for the WRX:
All Wheel Drive
Good aftermarket support
Amazing handling on any terrain
Easy to work on, SRT suspension took 15 hours. WRX suspension 2 hours
Holds resale value better than any domestic
Safest car on the road. Built in roll cage basically
Reliable past 100,000 miles. I've even seen 300,000 miles on some well kept ones.

Negative for both:
Premium Gas

Negatives for SRT:
TRACTION IS NOT STANDARD EQUIPMENT, NOR IS IT OPTIONAL
Transmission is fairly weak
No cruise control
No power rear windows
Neon body (doesn't hold up well)
Snow, sand, gravel, dirt. It doesn't go anywhere
Resale value plummets as soon as it leaves the dealer

Negatives for WRX:
Gas mileage
Cost of parts
02s have a weak transmission (Look for the BA at the end of the transmission code for a good one)
Higher inital cost

Yeah, I may be a little partial. Go drive each of the cars and you'll understand why. Every single person that has sat in my car, well they've bought a Subaru or fell in love with them. When I was looking at getting a new car, I did about 3 months of research on the WRX and the SRT-4. After putting over 70k miles on the WRX, it still can be sold for $9000 or better with the modifications I've done. $9000 is the blue book price on it. Compare that to an SRT-4 with similar mileage. BTW, my cars total mileage is 113,000.

The SRT-4 is going to be faster stock for stock, the WRX is going to be better when it comes to handling, comfort, and convienence. But like I said, GO DRIVE THEM BOTH. That's the only way you'll really know which one is right. I'm pretty sure you'll end up in a Subaru though.

But the main question now is should i go for my cousins car. he says hes only had to put tires and brakes on it. does'nt that mean that the big work is soon to come. Im not sure but like you guys said i drove it last week and fell in love with it.

Crazy taxi did an excellent break down there. I have driven and rode in anSRT-4, not nea as nice as a WRX. Not as sharp looking either. But like everyone else says, you will be the one driving it, you need to make that ultimate decision based on your cash, wants, and needs.

power windows, mirrors, many have standard 6-cd changers, etc are advantages of the WRX as well. You get some of that from the price difference, performance aside.

You're furthering my point. Any idoit can say "in the ends it's still a XXXX" and call it whatever it originally conceived of. I like both cars, and I would ultimately take a WRX (which I have) due to the fact that I think it's a better overall car, not because the other car is still a [insert base model].
