wondering where to go first...

Just bought a 2013 wrx sedan yesterday and I was just wondering which direction I should start when it comes to modding the car. I've read a lot of different forums on this but I was wondering if I could get some good advice from anyone willing to help. Don't have a huge budget but will be able to afford some decent mods within the year. I've read a lot of people saying that going with the Cobb AP was a good first mod. Looking for a little power upgrade as well as getting exhaust and things of that nature to set up the look and sound before I go to deep into the engine. Anything will help. Thanks

Welcome! Although debatable, the general modding path is as follows:

#1) Start with a cat back exhaust. No significant power gains to be had here, mostly for looks and sound. Buy whatever you like and bolt it on any time - no tune required. Use new gaskets.

#2) Next, buy a Cobb AP V2. Flash to a Stage 1 map any time and enjoy smoother power delivery.

#3) After that, buy/install a downpipe and flash to a Stage 2 map right away. Enjoy a nice bump in power and a louder symphony under your hood. Again, use new gaskets.

#4) Now prepare for a turbo upgrade and supporting mods. This one takes some careful planning and the sky is the limit.

That sounds pretty close to the path I was thinking about taking. What brands would you recommend when it comes to the downpipe?

I'm a 2013 owner too and just did the following. Invidia Catted DP, Forge Recic BPV, Injen CAI, and now waiting on my dyno protune. An access port isn't a bad idea either though. I've read and heard from a couple different tune shops the catbacks and uppipes are good to stay on the 3G's, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a nice Invidia q300 sticking outta the back of your ride either lol!

COBB, Invidia, but don't forget to look for used. NASIOC has the largest classifieds you will ever see for Subies.
