When Is It Recommended to Get Your Valves Adjusted

Was in a rush to work didn't have time look at the manual. When is it recommended to have them adjusted? I'm at 112,6xx miles on my Rex. Don't know if they've been adjusted or not by the previous owner. There's just a faint ticking noise, from what I've read it's normal. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Alright, and do you know a rough estimate of the cost by any chance?

I wish wagon racer was still an active member on this forum. He was a Subaru mechanic. I was under the belief that it should be done before 120-130k mileage range. If your heads were not touched to have them pull the heads and reset the valve lash and all of that. The tick is valve tap or injector tick...two different noises that are common on a flat-4.

Alright cool, Is it a pretty expensive "repair" if you want to call it that? So I guess I still have some miles to go before it's needed. Could it also be getting a little louder because of the fact it's mid 20's outside now? I let it warm up completely before I drive it. Just a side note.

I've been told the same thing. I'm just told it's something you have to live with when owning a Subaru. But I can't help but think something is wrong every time i start her up lol. It's not a super loud tick but noticeable for sure.

Oops....I meant around 100k range of miles is when it is recommended by Subaru. Again...I can't really answer that. I'm guessing it would depend if its just a simple head job or not. But, it would help clean up some of the valve tap (not eliminate it) and get you some mpgs back if you're starting to get crap mileage. Either way...making sure the heads and all of its components don't take a dump on you is a peace of mind thing.

Valve clearances should have been inspected as part of the 105k. Typically you can see valve issues in a lot of cars between 120 and 150,000 miles. Cost wise figure $900-1,000.

It looks like you'd be having issues such as low compression or misfires if you really needed it. But, Brfatal's info is pretty good too.

I'm actually getting great MPG's still. Close to 50 miles every quarter tank, I do a ton of city driving for the most part. Well I may take it to them with in the month to see what they have to say. Thank you for the help.

That's not as bad as I thought it'd be. Don't they have to pull the whole motor?
