valve train noise.

Ok guys, I have an 07 WRX and I think the valve train noise is excessive. When I had at the dealer recently to fix a strut problem I had them check it out. Of course they say it is normal which it may very well be. I just don't remember being as loud as it is when I bought it. My brothers Honda Si is much quieter. I was just curious do Subaru's have a louder valve train noise compared to other imports?

Yep. If you really get on it in the first couple gears, it sort of whines. Remember, there are a lot more moving parts in an all-wheel-drive transmission than your brother's fwd Si. Unless you hear obvious grinding or you have trouble shifting, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

UM, he's talking about the motor, not the tranny. Valve click.

Yeah, the subie boxer engines all have a "click" "tick" whatever you want to call it. Its just a matter of how loud it gets. Now, piston slap is a different noise all together and it's not what your describing. LOL. It normally comes from forged engines and off centered wrist pins on some aftermarket pistons. Back to OT now. Its normal to hear the tick
