used vf-34

as i was looking through NASIOC and i see that VF-34's are well known to have the wastegate crack.. i think i read that it has no effect on performance..
so i just wanted to make sure this was true..
is there a known cause for the crack?
if i were to buy a used vf-34.. what should i look for?

you mean vf39, right?
vf34 is a ball bearing brother of vf30.

I might be wrong, but I thought all IHI turbo's have that type of problem (most common in the 39?). Someone else chime in who knows though and verify or correct me.

ahh sorry.. vf-39..
but about the crack? any downsides?

Unless it goes all the way through the casing, then you should be alright. Alot of turbos crack, it is just something that happens from the heating and cooling cycles. You should be okay though.
