Seriously read up on boxer motors. You wont have any doubts after that. There was a good article on here posted from this last months modified magazine about the history and building of the flat 4. Find it. Read it. Cheers!

So That's why it's getting garaged in winter and I'll deal with trying to survive in my civic I'll be done with school in 2010 and I'm relocating to the gulf coast of Florida so it's all good! O and thanks for your serivce bro, thinking about going for a commission when I'm done with school.
I can undrstand where you are coming from with the harshness of he winter and all. Im sure you know how to handle yourself in the snow, was just wondering. As far as the army goes, it has been alrite to me. Being an officer will have its perks. I got 4yrs and Im done and out, did my time (11yrs).

Honestly go for what you want. It is alot easier to make cheap power with the (primitive) 4G63 engine. But I honest believe that the WRX is better quality. I sat and test drove an EVO, was nice, but completely different than the WRX (which I sat in, then bought, no test drive, lol). The EVO (to me) seems cheaper (but the dealer wanted more) inside and out. The flat 4 is totally different and IMO a better engine and platform to build off of.

Just curious, when I get this WRX/STI, the first thing I plan on doing is dropping it. What kind of setup does everyone recommend? Eibach? Tein?

From the pictures the car looks nice, and the price and mileage is not bad at all. Just a thought though, have you compared the WRX and STI insurance difference? Its usually noticable between the two. Just a thought/reminder. If you can run a carfax on the one in the link, see what comes back. Looks good to me though. Happy hunting.

normally people buy these cars because they intend to put them through there paces. also +1 to the buying a stock car sometimes when people do things they do them half ass and things go wrong. do the mods yourself that way they are done how you want. you are prob buying someones problems with these two cars.

I like Tein they make pretty good stuf and the EDFC is a plus for changing things on the fly from the driver seat.

It is really hard to compare the two cars they both have there ups and downs and both excel in different qualitys. honestly my un biased opinion would be get what suits you and works for you. everybodys tastes are different, and we all want different things. I did alot of research on both cars the STI and EVO because I was for sure I wanted one of those. but after comparing the insurance on them I settled on a WRX and saved some money for tuning and parts. Do what works for you though man.
good luck

Case in point, they're both modded out cosmetically to precisely they way I want my WRX except for the secon done not being dropped and the first missing a sideskirt. I know if I buy a stock WRX with no mods it's gonna take an a@$$load of extra money to mod it to where I want it. The one missing the sideskirt unless he offered it for real cheap I've pretty much ruled out because of the mechanical issues it has. But the other one seems like it's been maintained by a real consciencious driver. Well, I appreciate all the comments and definately have alot more to think about before diving into this. I just can't wait to have a WRX!

ah and so finally i've went thru both the links of the 2 wrxs that you are eyeing on.seriously i wouldnt even bother with the 1st one as it was face-lifted to the 2003-2005 model front end.and its not just a swap-in headlight procedure.alot of work needs to be done and usually (pardon me) , pple that would bother with such facelift work , most likely had some bad accident damage .then either they get a 1/2 cut or went thru a facelift conversion.of cos there are some who really did went thru the conversion even though their rides are perfectly ok.but thats not common i believe.

in my honest opinion, i've seen quite a fair numbers of stock wrx engines blowing off.not saying its not good .its definately a good platform to built off.but it takes quite some strenghtening enhancements to the internals.while on the other hand,i;ve seen quite a number of stock 4G63 around where i live that runs on the hks GT3037spl producing respectable figures.
i just got my 4b11T. looking forward to start new project once i;ve finished mine on the rex.

Besides the pricetag 6 g's above what you said was your absolute price cieling?
Looks like that one is a better starting point. Seems a little steep for 60k miles though...

It sounds like you are sold on a stock WRX already, but I just wanted to drive the point home real quick.
I got mine for 12k with 100k miles. I firgured it didn't matter since like you said, it already had everything I wanted done. An STI block and turbo swap, pink injectors, perrin hoses and fuel rails, brakes and suspension, and CF hood and trunk. Then 2 weeks later the transmission blew from being railed on. Now I'm rebuilding my engine because my #4 piston broke. I'm now 19 grand into it. Go stock, and make sure it had a responsible owner.
