Hey All! I'm new here FYI. Anyway I drive a 1997 civic EX right now but I'm keeping taht for my winter car. I'm looking at 2 different '02 wwrx's right now and just wanted to post some links to them and get some opinion sfrom teh veterans around here. Pleeeeease feel free to critique what u can see goo or bad about these two wrx's. (keep in mind my budget is $14,000 no more.) Thanks................
The first car is garbage. The car has gauges but not hooked up, missin a side skirt. They both have aftemarket clutches with stock trannies, not good. Im sure they were both put through their paces. Im sure you would be buying someone else problem(s). But you could always test drive them and see. But I would also look into one that has little to no mods at all done to it. BTW, why use the AWD car in the summer and a FWD car in the winter?

I would never buy i wrx that has that many mods on it, something that just has an exshust should be alright. You really just need to find one and drive it and see how it feels! The whole fun of buying a wrx is to build your own car how you want it!

### the WrX is going to my car for several years after college and I wanna garage it in the winter. The winters here in upstate NY are brutal dude trust me.
But these cars seem to have minor issues but nothing major. Would you recommend taking the clutch already in there and putting in an OEM one? They both don't ahve extremely high mileage and seem to be in good shape cosmetically and have all the mods I want already. Except for the second, it needs dropped. Well feel free to further critique. What makes u think they've been ran hard?
Well the one with the turbo upgrade was ran hard becasue they got bored with stock power and push the stock to the limits and then wanted more power so they put a bigger turbo on it to push it harder! And the first one, if you want the car to last long you want some one that owned it with care for the car, a good owner would make sure all they stuff was working and kept up on it! Not stuff missing and not working. When i bought my car the guy had the recepit form the first to the last serive he did on it! If you buy a car with a good owner then you will have ## car for many years!
i believe it applies everywhere that getting a stocker would be a much better bet than a ride thats been heavily modded before.if you plan to get the ride kept running for many years to come , i think the best is to get one near where you stay and best get a mechanic or workshop to access that vehicle for you before purchase.no point buying another person's problem as quoted by another mate above.
both of those cars look like trouble, think of it this way, the people who mod thier car like that, drive it a certain way. You will be much more happier finding a car that is close to stock and in good condition.
Okay, so I see what everyone's saying. But do u guys mean they look like trouble because I may not be accustomed to driving them? Case in point, they're both modded out cosmetically to precisely they way I want my WRX except for the secon done not being dropped and the first missing a sideskirt. I know if I buy a stock WRX with no mods it's gonna take an a@$$load of extra money to mod it to where I want it. The one missing the sideskirt unless he offered it for real cheap I've pretty much ruled out because of the mechanical issues it has. But the other one seems like it's been maintained by a real consciencious driver. Well, I appreciate all the comments and definately have alot more to think about before diving into this. I just can't wait to have a WRX!
First off there is a lot of good used upgrade parts available on NAIOC. Also you will save $ in the long run buying a stocker and not having to spend you $ repairing someone elses mistakes. Think about it like this, A beat tranny on the way out is going to cost you more to repair then the upgrades you probably want to do right from the get go. Stay away from anything with a BOV, manual boost controller and upgraded clutch. I think anything else is reasonable and shows that the previous owner actually cared about the car and knew what they were doing. Listen to the guys here this is a good place and few will lead you in the wrong direction.

I know how winters can be on the east coast. I lived there for 18yrs. But like stated above, if you want the car to last you for awhile it really is best to do the work yourself so you know what has been done and exactly how it has been treated.

Awesome, thanks for the advice everyone. Instead of paying full for one of these WRX's off a private seller I'm probably just gonna put down like $10,000 on an '05 with real low mileage and do my own mods. Glad I came here first.....

lol, ya man Central NY is brutal during Winter. To everyone else when they hear snow they think Great! A WRX is made for that! What it's not nor any car for that matter made for is the ridiculously cold temperatures you have to endure here. So That's why it's getting garaged in winter and I'll deal with trying to survive in my civic I'll be done with school in 2010 and I'm relocating to the gulf coast of Florida so it's all good! O and thanks for your serivce bro, thinking about going for a commission when I'm done with school.
Okay I was pretty much done with this thread and I know this is maybe the wrong context to bring up here, but I was pretty much dead set on a WRX until I start looking at EVOs. Can I get some unbiased input real quick on WRXs versus EVOs as far return on investment, handling, and power? Thanks everyone....
Read up on the dynamics, vibration canceling and natural balance qualities of our motors. Up right straight 4s, whats so cool about that? Kind of like a turboed civic with AWD, but if thats what you' re into pretty biased huh
