Stock transmission + ~300awhp + driving like an ass = fail

Topic says it all

Chalk me up on the broken tranny board.

First gear to 6.5k
Second gear to BANG, clunk, clunk, clunk.

Transmission is locked and wont go into any gear. I had AAA bring it to a local transmission place. Ill have to call them in the morning to see whats up.

Now for my questions.... Of course, while they are taking apart the transmission, Im looking to upgrade to something stronger. I am not at all made of money and this happened at probably the WORST time in my life. So Im trying to not go over 3k. I have no idea where to start looking for new gearsets, etc. I dont know if its just possibly 2nd gear thats gone, and maybe I only need to replace 1+2. Anyways, if anyone could give me some advice on where to look, what to look for, and the possible costs, it would be awesome.

Thanks

For under 3k, I would say get a STi RA gearset, or maybe find a jdm 6spd online.

A guy just showed me MFactory Gear set - NASIOC

They look to be a very decent option in my price range. I PM'ed the vendor. Are these gears basically plug and play? Should my local transmission place be able to install them? Or only Mfactory?

edit: Fixed link

The link doesn't seem to be working for me. But if it is a "plug and play gearset"(not having to modify the case) your local transmission shop should be able to install it.

I have the RAs and they are pretty nice. Bad highway mileage though.

Best option is the rare JDM STi 5-speed from about 8-10 years ago which plugs in pretty easy and you can usually find it for ~3k. It's nearly as strong as the USDM STi's 6-speed. Other than that, there's nothing between RAs and Bigger tranny projects. I'd go RAs.

Yeah, after talking to a local wrx guy, he suggested RA's for my budget. Where is a cheap place to pick up the RA set? Also, when its said STi RA gearset, does that mean its for just the STi? Idk. Please point me in the right direction.

They were originally designed for the JDM STi type RA a few years back thus we call em "RAs" or "STi RAs" or similar.

gruppe-s.com sells em but make sure they got em in stock...

Well I got an update.

The transmission shop did a bunch of research and calling around for me, and long story short, heres what I got;

STi RA Gearset
Excedy Stage 1 (Organic) clutch
All new seals
All new bearings
Refacing the flywheel
All labor

= $3914

All in all, I dont think its too bad of a deal. I was expecting to pay around 3500 without a new clutch. The clutch itself is close to $600. Im about as happy as a guy can be after blowing his transmission and spending 4k

All the parts are being shipped from Japan from one of their suppliers. Hopefully, Ill have her up and running by the end of next week.

Nice job. Props to the trans shop for their find.

I put in the gruppe-s sti-ra (se) gears in march. I did the 1-4th set and aside from some speedo error I love it. but gruppe-s leaves something to be desired on the customer service front. took like 8 weeks to get my order shiped when they had it in stock from the beginning. and then shipped it without the sincro set. my car was apart for 4 weeks waiting to fix that screwup and in the end I went to subaru for the sincros.

Hmm, that's odd. Gruppe-S took 3 days to get my VF34 and lightweight crank pulley to me. Prices may have been a little higher than I would have liked but I knew it was from a good reputable retailer.
