Stock IC Size

Hey guys. I'm new to the Subie crowd, however not new to the car scene. I sold my T3/T04E and FMIC 89 Probe GT (laugh all you want) and went to a more usable platform. Anywho, my question is this.... How thick is the factory topmount? The guy I bought my car from (an 02 WRX) said the owner before him put a larger TMIC on it. It has silicone connectors and its between 4-5" thick, which seems thick to me. Also, will an upgraded TMIC screw with the tuning enough to do damage? Has TBE, stock filter/intake, stock tune (Cobb V2 purchased today)? Thanks for any help guys.

Thats a aftermarket unit. You wont see really much gains unless it was tuned for having the bigger IC.

it isnt gonna hurt it. you will have a small pressure drop compared to the stock top mount. most likely not noticeable its good you have a cobb ap if not i would worry of boost creep w/tbe and no em.. good luck and welcome! and i was once a proud owner of a 97 probe gt my first car bought it when i got my licence didnt know how to drive a stick and had to drive home 35mi.

It is an aftermarket unit for sure. Cant be sure of the brand, looks similar to the Ebay unit. Not a bad thing, and I didnt mean it would hurt it at all, just wont really be gains out of it unless tuned for it. By the way, welcome to the club.

Thanks. I know I wont see much out of it until there are supporting mods to back it up. I dont know why the original owner had it put on with a TBE and a Cobb. Thicker than the one on my Probe, but about a third the surface area. Glad to be part of the community.
