BOVs are techincally illegal. Venting air from the engine bay is not allowed. Thus all turbo cars sold in the use don't actually have BOVs from the factory. They have bypass valves. The difference is that dump tube. It re-routes the air from the valve back into the intake.

Do you need the tube? Yes. The car is tuned to expect that nice cooled, pressurized, air back into the intake.

To loose it , remove the RBV and plug the dump hole , and install a BOV ........In order to have the BOV you must have the car dyno tuned with a custom air/fuel ratio , by having the ECU flashed , you cannot do this with just bolting on the parts , if you just wanna get that great spool and blow off sound add a AEM cold air intake thats completely bolt on and requires no tuneing .

I'm not lnocking you but , I would advise you to visit a local speed shop that is familiar with the WRX programming (COBB or AGENCY POWER, ETC... ) and awd dyno tuning , I dont think you know enough yet about your car and you'll obviously not a tuner .

If your looking for that great blow off sound , just buy the AEM cold air intake , its in my engine to the left , you wont be dissappointed. Heres the intake on ebay ,

Seeing as how you are new to Subaru, I'll be nice. You don't need an "ECU upgrade" in order to tune the car. We have a tool called OpenECU or ROMraider. Basically you use the stock ECU and reflash the ROM inside of it. To do this, you need a Tactrix cable and a PROFESSIONAL TUNER. Do not try doing this on your own unless you like replacing motors or you know exactly what you are doing.

Speaking from experience, Subarus don't respond well to BOVs. They seem to like the recirculating BPV. There are plenty of them on the market, some better than others as is the case with all parts. Just do your research, ask questions, etc before you make a final decision

As well as BOVs not being the best for subaru's neither are cold air intakes, the stock air box is good till around 350whp but if you want more noise from that the cobb short ram intake or spt intakes are good but once again search around and find one good for you i'd just stay away from a cold air intake, and if you like noise a catback exhaust will do that for you

I have been hearing that the 08+ do like the cai and respond well to this mod, unlike past years 02-07.

don't get a bov man. you don't need it and if you want some noise get a turbo back exhaust. if you get a bov though, consider adding the price of the bov+ the price of tuning out the rich period between shifts. this rich period is caused because your mass air sensor has already caculated for this air and if you don't have it you will have too much fuel to the mixture. oh, and read this BOV and CAI discussions - read before you ask about one

I dont believe that you can tune for the richness between shifts, unless you are running a hydra or other standalone ems that can compensate for it (possibly speed density or a blow thru setup.)
