shifting from 1st to 2nd @ redline causes lag

I have a 2004 stock turbo and motor w/ only bolt on being sti exhaust. While shifting from 1st to second the car falls on its face, I mean its not that bad but it is definitely noticeable. Is this problem normal? What can I do to correct this?

Right at the redline for a stock 04 cluster. Should I extend that?

Yep, try shifting a little before redline. That should solve your problem.

I have an 05 WRX, pretty stock, and i thought the same thing too, until i learned to shift a hair over 6k and SQUEEZE the throttle, not smash it .It feels weird at first but once you get used to it, it's a real thrill
