shifters

Are everyone's stock shifters fairly sloppy?

Also, what are some good aftermarket shifters and how hard is installation? I was checking out the Sube short throw, but it's pretty pricey. I have installed several shifters in Mustangs w. T5 trannies, but I'm sure that is much easier as no linkage is involved (shifter goes straight into the top of the tailshaft). Sorry for the ignorance, I'm kinda' new to this turbo 4/transaxle stuff.

Thanks!
Tod

P.S. It's getting hot... 107 today and 112 by Sat.

from what I've heard, the Kartboy shifter has the shortest throw. I have the RSR racing shifter, and although it shortened my shifts a little, I dont really like it that much

Yes, they develop some slop. Install a better shifte bushing and that sould fix it right up though.

i have the kartboy...love it......install is ten min, tops. the hardest part is poppin the new one into the socket...a plastic or rubber mallet works well. you need a 12mm wrench, two actually (gearwrenches come in handy here....), and the mallet. remove the through bolt, pop the shifter out of the socket, tap new one in, and reinstall throught bolt. this is all after removing teh console trim piece, which is snaps, and twist the shifter knob off. as for the bushings, the kartboy ones are good, and install in ten min...under the car.

I have the Kart Boy also, and Love it. I didnt put the bushing in, even though i have it, beacuse it does not seem sloppy at all after just replacing the shifter. .I had a hard time getting the ball to pop in the socket also, so I polished the ball with a benchgrinder and then I popped it in while it was still warm and I barely had to use any force. I think the heat is what helped most.

mine is on the way!!! i cant wait! i just got some eibach sway bars put on my car and i one of the installers is my friend so he intalled a shifter bushing while he had the car up on the lift so i thing the short shift/bushing combo is going to be great! but i have a quick question...when taking out the old shifter should i push the cluch in and put the shifter in 4th and just continue to pull back intill it pops out or can i just pull it straight back with no clutch when its in neutral? thanks!!!!

Wow dude this post is from 2003
But to answer your question you don't have to put the shifter in any gear you can leave it in neutral
