Hey... new to the forums. I recently received an inheritance, and I'm attempting to find a good WRX that I can lightly mod for a dependable daily driver.
I'm seeing a lot of salvage titled WRX'es, and I'm curious how much you guys value one. I was told half of wholesale, but on a $16,000 car that's been repaired and *looks* unblemished, I'm not sure someone's going to sell me their repaired '03 WRX for 8 or 9 grand.
So here's my question: For an '03 WRX sedan that was hit in the rear, but has had all damage repaired(I've only seen pictures), what would you say is a fair price to offer the guy? The car has 38,000 miles, and seems clean and in good shape, otherwise(though I'll drive it and pay close attention to the clutch and tranny before I buy it). He's asking $15,000, and he said he's flexible on the price, and I don't feel comfortable paying the guy that much. He said it was hit hard enough to make him replace the trunk lid and back bumper... not sure if that helps, or if that's the extent of the true damage.
No, way, 13-14 is a ripoff. I got my wrx with 44k miles for 14 with a perfectly clean title. I say shoot for 9-10k. If he scoffs at your offer, leave. There are better deals out there.
By the way, I'd be VERY hesitant to buy a salvaged car, especially since you mentioned reliability. At the very least I would suggest bringing an experienced mechanic that knows his way around a suby.
Look in the classifieds. You can find a clean title WRX for 13-14 like WRexd said. If I were you I would pass on buying a salvaged car. You must consider the reliability and re-sale problems that occur with such vehicles.
Bad idea salvaged titles are almost always a bad idea, the damage has to be extremely severe for an insurance company to salvage a vehicle, keep looking or use that cash for a fat down payment.

I think the reliability and re-sale issues are most important here. Unless this is your project car, getting a car with a salvaged-title is a horrible stepping stone to an STi or brand new WRX etc. And you can forget trade-in value as dealers screw you over on a regular clean-title trade in... guess what they'll do to a salvaged title. Just stick to it and search autotrader.com or ebay those are the best places for deals IMO.
