if you just change the catback there won't be any true power gain...you'll just get the subaru exhaust note...all the power gain is in the downpipe...but you will need to get a tune to see the full benifit...and changing the up pipe in a 02-05 WRX removes the cat before the turbo which has been known to fall apart and get sucked into the turbo...and by doing this you will probably notice a little bit quicker spool time

So if I understand, if I keep the stock up pipe and I change the catback and the downpipe, I will get a better sound and just a little more power ?

yup thats right...you probably won't even notice the power gain because the stock CBE flows pretty well all of the congestion is in the Downpipe...but you if you do have an 02-05 WRX (i cant tell because you haven't listed your car) you really should consider swaping up-pipes...the pre-turbo cat is bound to start to disintigrate one of these days and ruin your turbo

No theres no real benifit for you to replace your up-pipe because you have an 07 which does not have a cat in the up-pipe

For stage 2 no, for upgraded turbos, yes.

06+ wrx and 04+ STi guys, you don't have a cat in your up-pipe so that does not apply. 02-05 WRX guys only.

Generally people go by the stages defined by COBB...
Stage 1: Stock car with reflash
Stage 2: Turbo Back Exhaust (TBE) with reflash
