Oil catch can

Is an oil catch can worth spending money on? Can it really help my engine live longer and run better?
Is it true you need two separate cans for the car's air system to work properly?

No, you don't need 2 cans.

I would suggest an A/O seperator or OCC if you track/Auto-x/drag your car... otherwise it's overkill.

Check out the Grimmspeed unit. Its awesome and an easy install. Doesnt look bad either. Just need a 19mm (I believe) to put oil in. Most of my builders and tuners I know recommend it even on a stock subie.

Just the hassle of having to monitor it and empty it. Making sure it stays clean and all that. Have to mount it somewhere, make it look nice and clean. To me the simplicity of the AOS was much easier and better for me. Just my opinion tho.

Cheapo catch cans are cheap because they do a whole lot of nothing because there is no filtering media. If you want something that actually does something, you need an air-oil separator, which costs more.

I run the Grimmspeed A/O Seperator...my tuner doesn't know if it works, but eh. I'll run it anyways...I've seen the pictures on nasioc with clear tubes and I am a believer.

Catch can do do something even with no media, just vent to atmos and not worry about anything. If you want a media steel wool works great!

Yes, run the crank vent and valve vent to a can and instead of routing back to the inlet just intall a breather filter on the can. That way you don't need a media or worry about the quality of the can. I've seen the GS AOS not function for road racing, so even it can pump oil back into the inlet. A can to atmos is the only 100% way of not messing your insides up with oil/blow by etc.

So is a 05 lgt differ from a 08+ wrx?? Routed mine exactly like this, crank case breather straight hose no pcv to can, then took both head vents (nearest to front of engine) and routed them to the can. Then used an atmospheric vent. Had Smoke on start up, but before i hooked the hoses up to the can (they were just open to atmoshere) there was no smoke. Any ideas?
