Don't bother with the AEM. I had one that I just sold on ebay. Does nothing but makes your car louder(can hear the wooshing and whirring of the air and turbo). I would swap for something else. Depends on what kind of work you want to do, but and up pipe should be in the price range of the AEM. Or maybe replacing the intercooler hoses with something like samco hoses and a K&N drop in filter. Ditching the silencer will help. As for the turbo timer, check this site out. This guy has been inthe business of modifying Subys for a very long time now.
You'd rather rely on the evaporating coolant to cool your turbo, rather than having your car run a few mins, after you park and leave?

There seems to be two sides to this issue. From what I have read it doesn't hurt... just some people beleive it doesn't help either.
I think the Blitz Dual Timer is my best bet for this. Even if it doesn't help like some say, it does damn look cool!
It's not vaporized coolant, it boils down to the effects of liquids being heated and flowing up with the heat, cooling towards the top and flowing back down etc. One of the reason why the little resvoir for filling coolant is above the turbo. But I think it's one of those old things from that past that stayed around and people make money on it. If you run your car hard or something, then yeah, idle it a little before you shutting it off won't hurt. By the way, I also have a Blitz turbo timer. Came with the car. Does all the auto timing for shutdown, give voltag reading etc. but I think your money will be better spent on something else. As for the site I gave I have delt with the guy since my first suby a 91 Legacy Turbo. The guy has always been honest and real with me.
I was looking into an alarm with auto start (cold mornings)- some allow you to stop the car at a distance as well - ie. park, get out, and shut off at 100 ft away - extra idle time even if only a few seconds?
lol every time a tt is mentioned both sides come out to debate about whether they are needed or not. I say even though they may not be needed, Better safe than sorry eh???

Yes sir. Not to mention if one decides to go with one of the BIG boy turbos down the road, which most of them don't have coolant lines, then you HAVE to have a turbo timer.... or at least some patience to sit in the car and let it cool down after a hard run.
how long should i leave the car running before turning it off? does it depend on how long u have driven for?
i usually run for about 3 mins after 30 min drive...is this good enough???
you really dont need to sit unless you run HARD. meaning you are almost redline shifting through every gear for hours. unless you are putting that kinda power through your turbo really is not that hot in the sense of turbo heat. so a turbo timer is over kill.
but if you do run it hard, let it sit for about 1 minute or so and youll be good. even then you are still in the ok.driving the car normal, does not mean you need to let it sit before shutting it off as the turbo does not hit that point of heat during that.,
