Newbie Need help/suggestion on engine swap

Hi, I recently just purchased a 05 outback xt. It needs a new engine or short block, I've been juggling a few ideas and don't know the best way to go. First would a used sti engine fit and what would I be in for? Or should I go with a sti short block and what would be involved in that?

Just get another EJ255 block. You're looking for extra hassle with no benefit.

The difference between the EJ257 and EJ255 is the heads. If you just need the short block, doesn't matter much. I think there might be some small difference I can't remember but it's minor. If you need the heads, stick with the EJ255. Your car is drive by cable, the EJ257 heads are drive by wire. The conversion is a ####tacular amount of work.

This pistons are different in both of those shortblocks as well. 257 has 22cc dished pistons while the 255 has 24cc dished pistons.

EJ255 has different pistons than the EJ257. EJ255s (what he has stock) pistons have smaller dishes. It's not a huge difference. Not sure how it would affect tuning.

EJ255s are DBW as well.
