So I am looking for a decent car as a daily since my truck just blew up, but I have a low budget. I have stumbled upon this ad, and was looking for some feedback on it. I was pretty much wondering if it would be still reliable enough to get me through this upcoming winter, even though it is in fwd. I would save up for a motorcycle to use in the summer while I would work on fixing it up. Just looking for thoughts on it. And what price do you think the guy would let it go for? My car buddies are telling me no, but I think it could be a decent purchase assuming it runs and drives fine.
heavily modded cars 99.99% of the time have had a beaten life. also the list of mods tells me the previous owner was after style not permformance. and being 2WD its useless in the winter.
"The car has been made into a 2wd vehicle. A tree fell on the rear of the car so it broke the rear differential. could not find the part so mechanic just made it into a two wheel drive car. Drives beautifully. Has a rebuilt title because of that' RUN FORREST RUN!!!
never buy something with a rebuilt title unless you yourself are a mechanic or have a garage, tools, welder, etc... and are very savvy with repair work. there are some expections of course, but generally stay away.
Yeah I like salvage titles for project cars but not for your daily driver.
Also a FWD Subaru sounds like a hot mess especially if the reason its FWD is that a tree fell on top of the car and broke the rear differential
Rear diffs are under the car so there is little chance that a tree fell on it, More likely he was "rallying" or "offroading" and nailed his rear diff on a big rock either cracking it and losing his diff oil or damaging the diff case beyond repair. Instead of replacing the rear diff he went the cheapo route and pulled the driveshaft and you now have some form of broken rear diff putting strain on the rear axel.
I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole, Unless you get it for nothing and you have a large pocketbook for repairs. Even then it looks like its been beat on. Buyer beware.
i'll just add: that intercooler in the pics IS NOT AFTERMARKET as the add says. and the amount of rock dents in that TMIC tells me autocross, which would back up arctic's theory about the broken diff.
