Question max. psi on a stock wrx

My 2002 wrx is totally stock right now and I was wondering what a good first mod could be for not that much money. Also if i get a manual boost controller for my first mod, whats the highest and safest place i can set it at? Thanks for any opinions and suggestions on my begining modifications.

The 3 most repeated things I have to say are now in my sig to save typing an extra 5,000 characters a day:

*** DO NOT upgrade your intake until you upgrade your injectors ***
&
*** DO NOT raise boost until that ugly cat in your uppipe is gone ***
&
*** DO NOT touch your car with any mod if you like your warranty ***

But, once you get your uppipe, set your boost to about 15.5 psi. I know it's only 1 pound more than stock, but that 1 pound makes a big difference.

Theoretically you can run as high boost as you want as long as you keep your a/f ratio and egt's in check. If you keep them right, your engine is not running lean enough to hurt anything. But, that's not really the safest way to do things.

What kind of gas you are running also plays a part in how much boost you can run.

Don't raise it above 15.5 in 4th, without an AFR and EGT Gauge (mounted on cyl 3).

hey i just installed a txs turbo back exhaust and got a new boost gauge, in first it tops out at 10psi (i thought 1st and 2nd were limited to 10psi) but in second i hit 14 psi, bout the same in 3rd and 4th, but in 5th on the freeway it peaks at 16 psi then settles around 14-14.5? is that normal without a mbc?

Not into the 16's, it's limited to 13.5 by stock. Do you have a UTEC or any E/M-BC ?

no i don't, at leat not yet, all i did to the car was the exhaust, a k&n drop in air filter, and i replaced the restrictor connector between the wastegate and the boost control? i think thats where it was, maybe thats doing it?

Yeah if you went 3/16's (commonly used) it will. That is where boost is regulated and that is where you are having your problem from. (IF said mods are only thing done to car).
