Loud whining noise. Help please!

I just got my first WRX the other day. It's a 2002.
I noticed when driving home it made a odd whining noise from what sounds like the drive train. It doesn't make the noise at idle, just under acceleration (when i take off it sounds exactly like the car in the Jetson's cartoon if you know what that is) and at all times when i put pressure on the accelerator. I was kind of thinking it was a bearing somewhere maybe?

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

That's what I thought at first, and it may very well be that since it is my first time driving one. It is unusually loud though. And it's constant.

Does it do it in all gears or does it have upgraded gears?

I bet it has PPGs or some upgraded gears in it. Josh's 07 wrx makes a whining noise from the gears and he says it sounds like a supercharger whining most of the time. That it's really loud and noticeable when compared to stock gears.

I guess it's possible that it could have upgraded gears. It has some other Mods aswell. I bought it from a dealer so I doubt they would know if it had better gears.
Is there any easy way I can tell if it does?

Is there a way to be able to contact the previous owner?

No unfortunately. I have a friend that is one of the best mechanics I know and he said he'd look at it and see if he could help.

Go on NASIOC and see if they can identify the car. Alot of the time ex-owners will have journals. It'll take some time but never know.

I just don't see ppl upgrading 5th gear..... Then again.

Clutchdump it a few times, you will then be able to tell.

JUST KIDDING.

I test drove it last Saturday before I bought my wagon down the road. To me it sounded like the front diff was on its way out, but I am not an expert on these cars. I do know it occurred under acceleration in all gears, it would get louder the faster I went. And seemed to disappear when on decel not under load and when the clutch was depressed. Hopefully my description helps explain the problem.

Yeah that what happens. And I originally went to see the wagon you bought haha. And if you drive a grey new Wrx I seen you test drive it. I was standing there with my girlfriend and my buddy when you pulled back in the lot.
I'm getting my car looked at today so I think I'll have it figured out soon with all the help I get on here and by my friends

Yup that was me, it was a black wrx, but it's dirty so I guess grey haha. Man after I went inside, I thought about telling you about the sedan, because I figured you'd go look at it next, but by the time I went outside to find you, you had already left. Well I hope it works out buddy, the sedan was clean! I just wanted a wagon more. The wagon has it's own problems too FWIW.
