Hey guys I just bought a used 2012 WRX Hatch with 35k. It came with a down pipe to this ugly ass drift pipe and a aftermarket blow off valve but no a/m intake.
I question the owner of the car prior to me owning this.. Is it possible he bolted on this stuff and did not tune it? It does back fire a bit sometimes.. so im thinking its running super rich?
My Check engine light is on (is 02 sensor codes) and my traction light stays on and cruise control light flashes.
If you guys can help point me in the right direction id greatly appreciate it!
well lets get you sorted out. First off dont drive it, and if you must drive it dont drive it hard keep the rpms low and your throttle position below 50%. take it to your nearest reputable tuner and have them give it the once over. Im sure they will find more parts that are missing or tinkered with and they will most likley be able to get you a limp tune for the time being.
If he has a drift pipe on it I would guess he also has a test pipe which could very well be the source of your check engine light. to know for sure we could take a look under the car or under the hood and look for a bulge in the downpipe. typically a buldge is the location of a catalytic converter, without which you will most definitely throw codes. to resolve that issue you can either have a catalytic converter welded in place or you can purchase an OEM downpipe as a replacement.
as for the blow off valve I would sugest purchasing either a stock bypass valve or an aftermarket bypass valve to replace the blow off. there are a handful of threads about why blow off valves are bad for our cars but to sum them up the ECU runs rich when the BOV dumps the air that was metered by the MAF to atmosphere.
Grab us some photos of the engine bay and we can help you further until you can get it to a tuner.
and for god sake please remove that fender melter exhaust post haste.
by the way, cruise control lights flashing because of you CEL. it means you can't use that feature just for safety reasons. Good luck, please post any updates..
