Whats your budget and whats your intent for the car? More info yields more answers. Also search around, this is probably the MOST COMMON question. Im not trying to come off as a jerk, but these cars have been around for a minute now, and there are right and wrong ways that have been tried and proven.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the purchase.

Well depending on condition of car, both engine and transmission wise, those are going to be a limiting factor. Depending on how you drive, the transmission will not last long. Figure around 5K for that to be rebuilt. On any year from 02-07 they are known to let go at stock levels. But for starters figure out what EM (Engine Management) you want or are going to use first and go from there. Then the next thing would be a stg1 flash once thats decided. Then a DP (Down Pipe) and stg2 tune after that install. Then its real money time; for upgraded fuel turbo, intercooler, brakes, and so forth.
