JDM EJ205 Engine swap 02 WRX

If you buy a early EJ205 JDM engine these are two important things to switch around if you want to be able to start her up!!. :) Im new to this forum.

Ambitions DIY project, for sure. Well done, and thanks for the suggestions.

Might be better to add the text that's on the photo to the body of the post as well, because the red font is a little hard to read against the photo backdrop. Still good.

Thanks! I'll do that next time. I'll be putting my new clutch and flywheel on her and dropping my engine in this weekend!:) I've been waiting a while to drive my wrx!

So that's it. Just those 2 things and its plug and play?
I was thinking about doing a rebuild but the numbers for a rebuild outweigh the price of just picking up a JDM engine.
So as long as it doesn't have AVCS its all good then?

I think the JDM ECU is required as well, and there's a special procedure for emissions testing.

NV Auto of Hamilton ON does these swaps, so is a good source of information.

I am preparing to rebuild mine stock, aside from a set of 92.5 mm 4032 alloy forged pistons instead of the OEM items. However, my power goals are modest at Stage 2.

Yup I didn't buy the sti jdm engine. no jdm ecu. yup it doesn't have a avcs. I had it running already but the clutch ended up frying on me. she was purring like a mean boxer engine!! I bought mine with 45,000 miles on it. I got it from nagausa. Ohhh yeah you need to reuse your intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

Why reuse intake and exhaust?
Thats sweet ya got it back up and running but sux about your clutch.
Keep the feedback coming.
Already brosed around for a jdm seems like the price range stays between 1200/1800 which is perfect.
Will this affect OTS AP maps?

The intake manifold and throttle body is little different. the exhaust manifold doesn't have the 02 sensor and the up pipe sensor. I paid 1,599 for mine with free shipping and I got it in 4 days. I am running stage 2 map from cobb accessport v3. it runs nice toooo.haha. :)

I was guessing that the exhaust needed the 02 wasn't sure though.
That's right around the price range Ive been seeing them go for on E-Bay.
Im stoked now, gonna have to sell some of my stuff lying around to get this a little quicker than I anticipated. >:D

I was in the same boat couple months ago. I was looking at all the differen't options!!!! I ended up getting little bit more money back from my taxes sooooo I got a bunch of goodies besides my engine. :) I bought a new hood scoop the sti style hood scoop for are bugeye soobys. It fits really nice!!! looks real aggressive! the only thing I didn't like is that it as a little thin so I reinforced it with more fiberglass.;) Good luck dude.

So I found a JDM Ej205 apparently its from the same guy that you got your engine from Soobs, I talked to Mike and he said it will fit just have to use the old intake and exhaust from my USDM.
Anyone gotta minute they can give it a look and see if they see anything out of the ordinary before I grab it up.

That's the same engine setup.:) Also you should replace the coolant tubing on top of engine block otherwise the upper radiator hose wont fit 100%. it will rub on the power steering pulley. Just remember to swap out your crank and driverside intake gears with your original ones. otherwise the crank and cam sensor wont send the rite signal and she wont start.;) I got my new clutch and my engine back in my car hopefully I can finish working on her tomorrow!!

Thanks for the heads up on the coolant tank.
It looked a little out of place there to me as well.
Gonna spend some time today cleaning up my intake and exhaust manifolds and try gutting out my OEM up pipe if worse some to worse Ill just grab up a new up pipe since the engine is out anyway.
Hopefully the JDM cam and crank bolt's dont give me any problems coming loose.
I had a hard time breaking the bolts free on my cams but luckily didnt have to go to extremes to get them off like most people have.
Is that DEI Titanium wrap you have on?
Was checking wrap out myself and seen DEI got good reviews so might pick that up and get that taken care also while the engine is out as well.

Thanks Dude! Yeah no problem-o. I was able to undo mine barely.;) with a huge breaker bar with an extension. haha. make sure you use a allen socket and not a star socket. Good luck!!
