I've had my 2010 WRX for about a year now and have never put anything under 91 in my tank. Yesterday I completely spaced and filled up half a tank with 87. What negative impact will this have on my engine and will I do damage driving with this fuel grade?
NP! Since you only filled half a tank, you can fill it the rest of the way with 91, or 93 if you can find it, for peace of mind. Its best though to try to burn as much as you can first though.
Might be worth grabbing a bottle of octane booster, Something with MMT ( the stuff oil companies use to increase octane ).
When dealing with octane boosters you just need to be aware of the way they measure, If the bottle doesnt tell you how many gallons or how many points put it down. Royal Purple for example adds 30 points to a 25 gallon fill, That means you could add a whole bottle and increase your half tank of 87 to about 93 which I would feel better driving around with.
I would rather be deal with a can of expensive octane booster than need to worry about staying out of boost. Just my .02 cents
Most you will get is shytty gas mileage and maybe a rough idle but no worries.
My wife did that to my car as well in the past once and nothing happened.
