So I was waiting in line behind an old Nissan pickup truck on a semi-steep hill. Next thing I notice is he's rolling back towards me. I had only a second to react, and I didnt think I would be able to get it in reverse and slam on the gas before he hit me so I just left my car in neutral hoping to coast with him. CRUNCH.
Yea we pulled over to the side of the road and started to exchange info. Just as I was going to call the cops an officer drove by and asked if we needed help. I said yes. He filled out the information exchange for us. The driver, who was a very old and slow 77 year old was really apologetic so I couldnt be too mad, I just told him shit happens. My guess is he wasnt paying attention and let the pressure on the brake pedal release alittle and he didnt realize it. Ive done it before, never hit anything though. I called my insurance and they are going to come take a look at the damage. Its only the fiberglass front lip that got cracked, it bent a few fins in my front mount, but thats nothing serious. The fiberglass should be an easy fix, and Ill get it repainted of course. Worst part about it is my girlfriend and my two other friends (in the car behind us) and me missed the movie we were going to see.
Go the ER and have your back exrayed. Then use the $ the other guys insurance company gives you (to pay you off), for more car parts. Or not.
Sorry about your ride though. It really sucks to put all that work into your car and then get it smashed while sitting in traffic.
This last winter I got hit by a minivan, after having my WRX for less than a week: I was bummed. I was pulling out of my driveway and this F-ing minivan speeds around the corner and clips me. I think the minivan took it way harder than me though, I only needed a front bumper cover. Of course the snowbanks where about 6 feet high along my road and neither one of saw each other.
Gotta watch out for old folks and crazy minivanners!
Come on bro, insurance fraud on some 80 year old man? Karma? What if someone did that to you?
As long as it gets fixed right and no one got hurt, I say no worries.
As long as it gets fixed right is the key words... I have never been impressed with the people insurance companies use to fix cars... On my buddy's Scion, they put a bad headlight in it, and didn't align the hood and fenders properly, now the fender hits the door when you open the door.... On my step-dad's Tundra, they put in another motor that leaks oil a lot, and somehow dented the hood and front bumper during install, and haven't fixed it yet either.
Hope it gets fixed well done. And sorry to hear about it, but don't feel bad, as you said, sh!t happens; that's why there's toilet paper.
Dude, Beast, you can take the car where ever you want, that's your right. You might have to get a few quotes from different places, but of course your going get dicked if you used whatever half assed repair shop the insurance uses. You might have to stomp your feet a bit and threaten them, but that what my wife is for [bad cop(wife), good cop(me)]. If its your fault you deal with your insurance, you hired and pay them to work for you, and you take your car wherever you want. If its the other guys fault, you take your car wherever you want. If this isn't how it works for you it's time to change insurance agencies.
Besides that if that car aint right when you pick it up from said repair shop its your fault for not making sure its right before you leave, or not taking it back when you realize it wasn't done right. You're guaranteed to get screwed nowadays if don't stand up for yourself, that's the american way.
Yeah, I guess my step-dad is too lazy to take our Tundra in or something. And my buddy with his Scion didn't really care, since the headlight worked, but not the high-beams, high-beams aren't even needed so he didn't want to go through all the hassle of it... I guess the moral is to try your hardest to take it to a known and good reputable shop.
I guess the only cool thing the shop did for my buddy's tC (other than fix it) is that he had a really sweet TRD Racing badge in the front grille, and they actually cut the zip ties, and re zip tied it to the new front bumper, I thought that was cool of them. And they left our ram air intake in the fender also; even though it looks like they strechted it out and stuck it back in, we just took the fender off and re-did the ram-air one day... Some shops can be good shops, I gues the one the Scion was taken too wasn't that bad after all.
