How can you tell if your motor is done for??

As it states I'm trying to find out how you can tell if my ej205 is shot or not. I have noticed a little drop in lower end power mainly when I take off. I wa thinking it was my turbo as it spools funny at higher speeds and rpm's. Like it acts like it is governed it hits .10 on my lamco gauge and drops a few ticks and builds back up. But back to the motor, so like I said when I go to take off It acts like it has no real power so sometimes. But at higher speeds it picks up good. Any help testing things out would be great.

All subies have a slight knock, that's normal.
Is there white foam in your oil?
Is there oil in your coolant?

Compression or leakdown test will tell you the health of your engine.

There's a procedure in the Service Manual with test specs, but it's better to have a competent shop do it for you for the 1st time. They'll be able to interpret the results and suggest remedies if issues are identified.

ok i thought the knock on 3 was common. and no coolant in oil just did oil change Thursday. but it does look like a white film on the top of my overfill tank. but my hose that runs to the tank has alot of white crust in it, so i was thinking the film was from that but that just started.but no oil or black shit in the tank.....i do know i have a valve cover leak could i be losing compression from that maybe? and it looks like i will have to find a manual online as mine was not with the car when i got it.but it looks like i will have to find a shop and see how much a compression test will cost. i have been thinking of doing that here soon, looks like it will be next month.

So the ticking from our motors is normal? My Bugeye has been ticking ever since I got her at 108,xxx miles. I don't really ever feel any power loss most of the time, and I'm currently Stage 1 with the Acessport. The only time I feel some power loss is when it's really hot outside. My clutch gets kind of soft as well. I installed a Kartboy Pitch Mount not to long ago and I can really hear the ticking, etc. through the fire wall now. Sounds like my car wants to die.

thanks for the input. and the ticking goes away a little after she is warmed up so i think the piston slap is just getting a bit louder maybe.but i talked to my old man who has been a mechanic for almost 20 plus years now. now hes not s subie mech but i asked his input on the issues and said to get my injectors looked at maybe one has a weak spray so i will be looking into that also once i get the compression test.
