horrible gas mileage

i just got my 06 wrx wagon, but i realize this car get horrible gas mileage, in the user manual says the car has a 15.9 gallon tank, but every time i fill up the tank i only get a little bit over 200 miles.i shift around 2.5k rpm just like what it says in the manual and i usually put in neutral and coast when i hit a stop sign or red light. well, I'm not so good at stick shift car yet,but i think right i shift pretty smooth, are there anything wrong with the way i drive or something is wrong with my car?

ps. i just got a K&N typhoon intake, i hope it'll give me better gas mileage.

sorry for the poor English, English is not my first language

you have yet to post what you gas mileage is... divide your miles by your gallons and see what you are getting.

maybe shift a little later so the car isn't so bogged down and the engine wont have to work as hard, have you tried a new fuel filter or maybe different plugs something easy like that? judging on your numbers you are only getting like 12.5 MPG you should be at least 20 or so.

Just because you have a 15.9 gallon tank doesn't mean that you are using 15.9 gallons of fuel between fill-ups. What what the gas pump says, and go off of that. When i full up for a full tank it is usually about 12.9 gallons. Hence the 3 gallons of safety tank fuel that you only use if you run it completely dry.

yeah that still seems to be a little low and you should also remember that when the yellow gas light comes on that you still have about 3 gallons worth of fuel in your tank.

let me add a little more to this.

When you fill your car divide the miles by the gallons of gas bought like stated above.

just fill your tank till it clicks then stop, get in your car set the trip meter till it says 0 then drive till you have like a 1/4 tank of gas then fill it again till it clicks, then go look at how many miles you have drove then divide that by how many gallons you just put in

Have you cleaned your injectors also.... I have noticed that the gas in certain areas is crappier than others. BG44K and Seafoam

You are putting in premium right? I got cheap and started running mid-grade because I thought..... well, it's better than regular and cheaper than premium....WRONG! It's worth it to spend the extra on premium....my 04 runs great on Shell V-Power and I get better gas mileage so in the long run it's really not that much more expensive.

use recommended fuel grade, which is premium...says on the inside of the gas door and in owner's manual.
