Help! Wrx is slow! My 2002 wrx is acting like it has no turbo. The turbo was checked out and there was no problems with it. I get on it and it is normal up to about 3k rpm. After that it slowly (really slowly) climbs to about 5500-6000 rpm where it basically doesn't climb anymore. No matter what gear. You can hear the turbo up until about 4k rpm. Been going on for about two weeks. I have been researching and have not found any clear answers. I plan on getting my afr and egt read to see if that's a problem. Any advice helps
Check boost leak first, or vacuum leak. Cant be clutch slipping. your engine would rev up very quickly and the car wouldn't pull in gear if it was the clutch slipping. it sounds like boost pressure isnt making it to the cylinder. improper air fuel ratio in the cylinder causes weak combustion and lack of power.
How did you get to them? Did you remove anything? Did this problem start after the coil install? Do you have check engine light on?
If you could give a detailed description of what was going on before this started and what you have removed, fixed, replaced and tried testing we will have a better understanding on what maybe got over looked.
The car was misfiring at 4k rpm. Replaced coil packs. Ran awesome for 4 days then this. No engine lights. Replaced coil packs on cylinder 2 and 4. Just removed my battery and windshield wiper fluid container.
How were your plugs? Did you confirm gap if you changed them? All 4 should have been replaced while you were in there IMO.
Your car is also 13 years old so your intake hoses could have a little rot and unmetered air could be getting in or leaking out. Like the above have suggested do (or have someone) a boost leak test.
Fuel filter could be clogged and your not getting enough fuel.
I'm getting a boost leak check on Wednesday. The plugs were changed about 2 months ago and the fuel filter about 4 months ago. Hopefully my only problem is a leak somewhere
Compression check and possibly a leakdown if the compression results are fubar.
Any engine management? Any mods?
You can always reset the ECU by unplugging the negative battery terminal and pressing the brakes for 5 seconds and let it sit for 30 mins while you clean the maf and look at the air filter.
It's also common for the boost control solenoid to take a shit. Have any way to read boost?
