So i bought a JDM wrx bout a month ago and know nothing about these cars yet, having owned just honda's up to this point. So Im just trying to figure out why my car boggs out at high rmps, is it my plugs/wires, do I have a coil pack? is it a leak? haha please help me.
Thats a really good idea, I was just hoping/trying to get more of a backround on the car. But as mentioned above, start simple, and then start looking into the bigger things.

It could also be completely normal. These cars don't really increase power significantly all the way up until redline. The push-you-back-in-the-seat feeling and the usable power band is somewhere around 3,000-5,000 give or take. Once you get above that, the power actually levels off and starts to fall a little I think on a stock or lightly modded car.

Ok, Thanks for the input. the car is completley stock except for a cat-back exhaust and suspension. in regards to it being normal, im not so sure that is the case, because when i get to high RPMs it doesnt just lose power but boggs out completely and the rpms drop to nothing. the oil was just changed and i am planning on re-doing the plugs and wires next pay-check.
sounds like a potential boost leak...but the older model WRX also comes with a horrible version of the TD04 turbo that tends to die out at about 5000 RPM

Give it a once over and make sure she's running good. Then you can decide if it's a normal thing or not. I'd hate to send you over to NASIOC but they have a section in there for the older wrxs. They might have some more help for you. Since in our forum we don't have a pre-2002 model section and we don't have a whole lot of experience with them. Though, I do like the pre-2002 models.
