Ok this is my 2nd AWD Stick car that i have owned and over the time i never really learned how to take off right if im racing on the street. I know with like Front wheel drive cars u can just drop the clutch and squeel and go but with awd its not like that right? ### i've tried that and the car just kinda jolts and then slowly goes.. So what have you guys learned or what can u reccomend to do for good start offs?
By racing on the street you mean racing at a sanctioned drag racing track? I have heard on the WRX it likes to be at about 3,500 rpms when you launch, but I am a noob too.
slooog,
A search could have given you an answer for this, but, Ill answer it real quick. The best way to take off is by "launching". You rev the car to 4 - 4.5 RPM's, then you slowly let out the clutch and give it gas not letting the RPMs ever drop below that range. The more you do it, the more you get better at balancing out the RPMs and keeping them in that range.
Remember not to do it too many times back to back, because launching isnt the nicest thing you can do for your clutch. Actually, its probably the worst. But, its better your clutch than your transmission.
is it possible went you do a great launch that you smoke your tire ? i mean this weekend i launch hard and smoke come out of the tire and dont worry it wasen't my clutch
it is pretty easy to squeel with bald tires , but with my tires I can only squeel when I am launching into a corner. Keep in mind that if your tires squeek even just a little you are wasting horsepower, so the less they squeek the faster your launch can be...
CanadianSub,
You have a lower profile tire, so, if you launch with high RPMs, you might get a little squeal out of the tires, I dont know about smoking them though.
I've never seen any WRX with less than 400 whp smoke the tires...
so you mean they sold me a brand new wrx with 400 whp or you saying it was my clutch !
but it's right i was turning on a blvd but my tire din't smoke they squeel !
but i did make smoke with my stock tire i swear not a smoke show but a realy hard launch again's my mom's Audi TT i swear it make smoke im sure it wasen't my clutch
I have also spun the tires for a few seconds and had smoke, no smoke show but that would be sweet to roast all 4 at the same time. then watch the jaws drop.....
