Getting exhaust and BOV.!!!!!!!!

Yes I know bov's arent needed and can decrease performance. I got a HKS SSQV bov with the stuff to mount it on as well from a friend and I want to put on and I was going to buy a ebay $300 turbo back exhaust( yea they suck but its kinda a temporary thing untill i get some more money) . Do I need to get EM or anything to have my car run good? It is currently a completely stock 06 wrx with 31,000.

I'd highly recommend a tune of some sort if you're going with a turbo-back. I'd advise against the bov but it's your car.

could I just hook it up from the cat back for now until I get a tune? I honestly just really like the sound of the BOV

Yes, cat-back will be fine without a tune. Also, your cheapest option for a tune would be open-source. Typically around $200-300. Try looking around in some local forums for someone that tunes open-source in your area. Another option would be buying a used Cobb Accessport which usually run for a bit more $ than opensource.

I'm sensing a trend here... four of the links midniteblack posted were from: Unabomber's Manifesto - NASIOC

Skim through that beast. That will probably answer most of your questions. Happy reading

Yes for sure wait to put the downpipe on until you have some sort of EM...I would reccomend a Cobb AP...it's easy and quick and you can change your maps many times while only paying one price...look for a used AP-SUB-002 on ebay! It's def. ok to put just on the cat back on now without a tune, just not the down pipe! And an alternative to a BOV, if you do the snorkel/snorkus delete (look it up on here), and have the turbo back exhaust...I gotta say it sounds pretty good... I feel like it sounds just as good but not as obnoxious as some BOV's, and without the worry of it hurting your car...

I was reading online a little bit and it seems to me like I should get Cobb AP first... is that true? it seems like a huge performance gain from what their website says. Ive found a couple online for about 450 used. thats only 150 more then the exhaust so.....

The AP is a great first mod (any type of EM is really). The stock tune is pretty generic and lame. I have ran the AP from stage 1 (big difference over stock) up to my custom tune on a 20G turbo (with supporting mods) now. Its not just that map you get either, there are logging/data viewing capabilities, safety, economy maps. If one can find it or afford it, i always recommend the Cobb AP

+1

Cobb AP is a great way to go. Buy it and flash to a Stage 1 map right away. Install your cat back any time. Then buy/install a dp and you'll be prepared to flash to a Stage 2 map the very same day. Then enjoy the power and know you've done it safely. That's the way I did it.

Get a COBB SRI or SPT. You can hear the BPV pretty good with those and not have to mess up the MAF readings with a BOV.
