Correct. Aftermarket cat back exhausts are mainly for looks and sound - no tune is necessary. Bolt it on and go have fun!

will i get any gain at all in torque or hp?

wrxdan 11-26-2012 01:26 PM

you would probably be alot happier with a downpipe and a tune as well, it is a pretty good power upgrade night and day on our 2.0L's

thekamikaze kid 11-26-2012 01:39 PM

just need a little extra power in the lower rpm's.

Nope. Nothing consistently measurable on a dyno. Without a downpipe, catbacks are just noise makers.

thekamikaze kid 11-26-2012 02:03 PM

damn, not even on a reletively stock car? i only ask this because they advertise power gains for lightly modified cars, is this bs?

brfatal 11-26-2012 02:59 PM

You're better off listening to Benny Hinn than taking manufacturer claims as fact.

wrxdan 11-26-2012 04:30 PM

downpipe + em = money better spent

thekamikaze kid 11-26-2012 05:22 PM

How much do tunes cost? And can I just get the d p and a tune?

wrxdan 11-26-2012 05:50 PM

you have a few choices, go to a local tuner (not sure on price), cobb accesport $595 or so, depending on where you get it, opensource, like romraider and ecuflash, can purchase a ots stage 2 map from xpt tuning(that is what i did)...ecuflash and romraider are free, and the map is 52.00 for basic stage 2 map, and yes, can use just the downpipe, but recommended to get a new up pipe as well, since ours have a cat in them that can fall apart and destroy the turbo....

tactrix cable would also be needed for the opensource like romraider/ecuflash

thekamikaze kid 11-26-2012 06:08 PM

Oh we'll I can't afford that anyway. ROFL
Thanks tho!

wrxdan 11-26-2012 06:17 PM

you can get to stage 2 for under 500.00 if you do it rite(about the cost of the catback you wanted), if interested, you can pm me

thekamikaze kid 11-27-2012 02:48 PM

now when u guys say "tune"does that mean a dyno tune or is it as simple as uploading a map from a computer?

man show 11-28-2012 12:37 AM

Could be either, usually the latter if you're talking about a Stage 2 tune.
