Engine Rebuild Required for a COBB Stage 2 on an '04 WRX

Just purchased a blue '04 WRX with 208,000 km, as my daily driver and occasional track toy (autocross, nav rally and track lapping days).

I also am moving to it from a stock '09 STi 5-door lease, so I've got a feel for the other side as well.

I'll run it essentially stock with just a Cat-less turbo up-pipe for now, but if I eventually decide that it's time for something more, I like the COBB Stage 2 performance package.

Does it make more sense to have the engine and tranny rebuilt before this kind of mod?

Also, is this a level of tune that is suitable for day-to-day use? I know it makes it faster, but did it use more fuel, require more maintenance or be more tempermental to operate and live with?
