It's not that you are necessarily doing damage. Do you detect any knock from the engine? If not it should be OK. All they have in Cali is 91 octane unless you buy expen$ive racing gas which is like 100 ~octane. If you are getting knock maybe try octane booster. It sounds like there's not much else available as an option for you.

As far as the Corvette not needing 93 octane. The Corvette motor is considerably more low tech than your STi motor. It is a pushrod with big displacement. Even the Z06 with the 405hp motor is only making 70.6 HP per Liter of displacement. (I'm not saying that is not decent but our cars make way more keep reading) The WRX with 227hp makes 113.6 HP per Liter and the STi makes 120 HP per Liter. You are getting a lot more out of what you have in both cars vs. the Vette.

Anyway having a Turbo makes things harder on an engine. It causes spark knock to occur more readily than a normally aspirated engine. That is why Turbo cars have a way lower compression ratio than NA cars. I think the WRX is 8.5:1 vs like 10:1 for a regular Impreza.

Also the higher the compression ratio the higher the octane requirement to keep knock from happening. They are starting to make the higher compression ratio engines run on regular gas because people don't like paying for the Premium.

Nice to see someone from N. dakota. Where is the crappy 92 from?
Thats the highest we have up here too, 92 octane at tesoro, or 91 everywhere else. What I would give ot have a Sunoco with 94

Actuall the Sti has a lot of potential. We are getting over 320 whp with our stage 2 package which is oevr 70 whp increase over stock (which was 248 whp). Not too shabby for stock turbo and stock cat back exhaust. Maybe not as easy to make fast as the EVO but still not bad at all and a lot nicer to drive on an everyday basis.
