my car is driven daily. Standard Sti clutch. I am waiting to get my ECU reflashed by the Sti engineer who will be coming here within the next 2 months.
My car is relatively lightweight compared to your standard WRX, 1200kgs ( I am not sure what the conversion is to lbs) because it is a 2 door model. We also run on Ron 97/98 fuel over here.

Question AVC-R please tell me it's worth it

ok, so christmas rolled around, and so did some money, my girlfriend got me a Perrin short ram intake, so i felt like it needed a friend, i was looking online, and the a'pex-i avc-r boost controller caught my eye, and i have never seen it for a cheaper price (400 shipped)but now i'm hearing all these wonderful mixed reviews about it and it's making me nervous. i've still got stock turo and exhaust. and besides all that i am just trying to fugure out where the hell to mount this damn thing...i want something accessible, but i dno't want it on top of the dash ### then it's just asking to be stolen....if anyone has any red flags to throw at me about this, or any mounting suggestions/installation advice, i'd be very appreciative
thanks

Don't bother. Save your money and get a UTEC. Raising boost without raising fuel is not a good idea. That is, unless you like buying engines....

I would not risk raising boost when you still have a cat in your uppipe. That beautiful purr your car makes will be intrupeted with a disturbing meow in your turbo...

Question

so, aside from getting a UTEC, which is the apparent answer to every question for cosmo, does anyone else have an idea of what i can do to my car so as to still keep this boost controller, and not run too lean. there's this dude near me that can boar out turbos and change the compressor/exhaust wheels, but that's a little ways down the line.....and it's a total pain in the dick doing all this to my car because i really don't want to void warranty too bad....so my nexy idea with regards to exhaist will be to purchase the SPT "performance exhaust" shit...so after that is in i'll most likely throw on an HKS up/down pipe combo....i was a lot more excited about this boost controller when i woke up this morning, now i just think i'm going to have nightmares about it tonight...

don't get discouraged man, Cosmo says "Buy a UTEC" to everyone because it is the correct answer. Turbocharged fuel injection cars are all about technology, and the computer is where you make your car safe and fast. Being able to controll what is going on with your car's system is what makes us able to safely make horsepower simmilar to much larger much less fuel efficient engines.

It does suck that you can't rewire your fuel pump to dump piss loads of fuel into your engine, and just crank the boost to the limit of the turbo like in a DSM, but thems the apples man. Our car is more reliable than a DSM, but harder to mod.

your engine warrenty is gone if you do any performance mods my friend. So either don't mod or stop being warrenty concious all together.

Save the $450 you were gonna spend on the 2 horsepower the SPT exhaust will gain you and you are already half way there. Or just buy Cobb's accessport and start modding from there, it is half as much as a Utec and it is fine if you don't want to go much farther than 300 crank HP

yo man thanks for all that, it's good to know i'm not totally out of luck, just slightly misguided.... it's just amazing how many dieferent things you can do tothis car and how many different orders you can do them in. ### its' like, if you get a UTEC, then you gotta basically do a turbo-back exhaust, but then with all that power you may wanna do something with the injectors, then the clutch, then the brakes....the list goes on....so i guess for now, i'll concentrate my funds towards a new exhaust system.... by the way (icing on the cake) this car is a lease, i'm planning on buying it out at the end, but my main concern is not getting murdered in the end, but if i'm buying it it doesn't matter at all...so oh well....time to press on
thanks again

Help

I just had alot of work done to the motor in my WRX i added the 2.2 stroker block with fully closed desk, had the heads ported polished and shaved with a 3angle valve job, took the butterfly valves off the intact track, added a front mount, perrin fuel rails, and 800cc injectors, have a dc sports header and Greddy turbo back exhaust and Greddy uppipe and the most important that im proud of is the PE1820 turbo upgrade now finall getting to the questions i have done nothing to the ECU and i really dont wanna spend $2000 on a UTEC or even more on a stand alone does anyone have a suggestions on what i should do and maybe even whats the best kind of piggyback to buy or even if i would be fine if i put a fuel cut defender on the car and added a MBC im not wanting to spend alot more money on the car because i am wanting to sell it oh and just incase anyone was wondering why all the work it because i didnt have a turbo timer and didnt let the motor cool the oil clogged the turbo and broke the shaft so i bought the bigger turbo and didnt upgrade the fuel we were runnin high boost and the number 3 cylinder was running lean and piston sleeve exploded and the pistons smashed the valves and it was all down hill and money from there

First of all, that is the longest sentance I have read in a while...

Second, a UTEC is not $2000. It is around $1000. And, yes, you need it. Period. I don't know that there is a reflash that will work for you with injectors that large. After all that you have spent, why start worrying about money now? The engine mangement is the MOST important thing you can spend your money on.
