so i was at the track yesterday with my 02 impreza.....
1st run i did amazing i ran a 14.2 ALL STOCK (well except a 3.5'' downpipe)
2nd run i ran a 14.7
3rd run i ran a 14.9
4th run i ran a 19.5 hahaha
after the 1st run the car cooled for about 5-10 minutes
after second run it cooled for about 5 minutes
after 3rd run it cooled for good 15 minutes
now the problem is on my 4th run i launched at 3500 RPM and in seconds i was at 7200 RPM i shifted into 2nd but the car stayed at 6000 got back up to 7200 i shifted into 3rd same thing happened then i shifted into 4th and same thing happened........i noticed that the whole time i wasnt going ANY faster
soooo i parked and let the engine cool a bit......i tried driving home but it didnt work that well i had to be at 5000 RPM in 1st just for the car to even move, it started moving but like 2 MPH i drove it like that for about a mile or two and the highest i got it was 40 MPH so i parked and called towing
NOW i have extended warranty on it......covers LITERALLY everything but clutch and brake pads. NOW i know it wasnt the pads lol buuut could it be the clutch? the car shifts perfectly fine in all gears just doesnt move well.
let me know
PS the car is at the shop now but they cant look at it till tomorrow morning and im anxious
Sounds just like a burned clutch to me. Probably need a new clutch.... Same thing happened to my brother's car... Apparently you were using the clutch too much or something, probably ate right through it...

but if it was the clutch would it still be shifting fine?
also the car is moving just not good it does the same thing in all gears
and if so how did i burn it? can you tell from my description?
also how hard is it to change the clutch on a wrx? i chaged a clutch on my civic before and once on my acura but im not sure what ill need and how to do it on a wrx?

Reason: multi post
i would bet its your clutch, and replacing the clutch is not that hard as it time consuming, the hardest part that i think is getting the tranny off the block cause that can be a PITA, i just stay with the stock Exedy clutch and pressure plate i would rather slip my clutch and replace that than put 4 grand into my tranny right now
Sounds like your clutch saved your tranny. I would say good drivin! seriously.
Unless you have a lift and and experience I wouldn't attempt the clutch change. First time could take a long time. Thats worth the money to have it done, unless you are a glutton for punishment.

there are some how to on here to do it your self it really isnt that hard, plus you can take pride in your on work, and it saves you alot of money lol, but really its not hard just takes one day the first time you do, i had mine taken out and new clutch and flywheel all back in and driving in 8 hours in my driveway i did all that
By the way, you asked how this was possible? AWD cars with stock drivetrain (especially WRX's) are not meant to be launched at high RPM continuously. Lesson learned I suppose.
