Engine management. Grab a Cobb Accessport, $600 new. You'll have full control to swap your ecu's maps very easily, if you can plug in a toaster, you can flash your ecu with an accessport. For just about any aftermarket part you put on for more power, you'll need to tune your ecu anyway to be safe and get the potential of that mod, so an accessport is an ideal first buy. You can flash to stage one with no other mods and get a noticeable gain in power. Looking at the chart on their site, they show about 40+ whp gains for a stage 1 over stock. Seems very high...

Check ebay and craigslist for used ones if you want to save money, but make sure it's unmarried from the original car, otherwise it's useless.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I was looking into that same unit. However, how much risk do I run of engine damage using the access port? My buddy recommends getting a Meth injection kit to aviod engine damage. He has a modified Corvette though. What do you think?

If you want power, look at an aftermarket bellmouth style downpipe and stage 2 tune. This can be done relatively inexpensively (a few hundred bucks if you shop around) and will give you a very noticeable gain over stock.

If you're interested in handling, look into front and rear sway bars and endlinks. This will probably also cost several hundred bucks, but the improvement over stock is astounding. If you get medium-sized bars and solid endlinks, the body roll that you currently have will feel like it's completely gone.

Tires are probably the single biggest improvement you can make on these cars. Ideally, two sets of tires and wheels is the way to go: dedicated summer and winter tires with appropriate wheels (narrower for winter, wider/lighter for summer).

I don't know what your budget is, but if you have several hundred bucks to throw around, those are definitely some of the "best bang for your buck" mods.

best bang for the buck, downpipe and open source tune. since your in ohio go where every subi goes, applied tuning solutions in columbus, you'll be amazed at the difference over stock! first tune is $350 and he'll spend 5-7 hours making it perfect. your gas mileage will go up to about 28-30 highway and the car will be extremely safe and powerful!

Meth is a ways down the road for you imo, there's a lot of easier, safer, cheaper things to do before then. The accessport website gives you maps that are extremely conservative, nothing that's going to unleash "Too much" power and potentially damage something. If, however, you beat the hell out of your car with that new-found power and damage something, that's your business.

Lol you're worried about the safety of an AP but not meth... Research.

First upgrade for an 08 is to buy an 09, or all the parts the 09 replaced on the 08.
