Another noob?

Not sure if this is the correct place to introduce myself, but my name is Wil, and I'm a new member of wrxtuners. I've got an 02 psm wrx. My mods so far are txs uppipe, gutted downpipe, custom 2.5" magnaflow catback, mr josh lightweight pulley, gp moto ic y hose, cobb short throw shifter, prothane bushings, sony hu, and las but not least, EDM HEADLIGHTS!!! aaah, sorry, I get a bit excited when I think of those. Just got them for 225 shipped! Craaazy deal.

My first queston is, what do you guys think of lightweight flywheels? I like the idea of being able to accelerate quicker and shift faster, not to mention I hear they can help save gas too. (my excuse) However, I also hear that you have to rev more to launch, so that means mileage will gown... Will I get better or worse mpg? Also, how hard is the install compared to, say an uppipe install? Can I do it myself? I hear fidanza's flywheel (like 9lbs I think) is too light. What do you guys think is a good weight? Also, recommendations?

Sounds like you're on the right path, I didn't see BOV or CAI on your list.

Have you though about engine managment? You would get a lot more out of your TBE and UP.

Yeah, no bov or cai here. em is definitely on my list, just need to save up some. Thinking about getting an xede (because I can get one for cheap) or an ap.

So... about the flywheel?

Lightweight flywheel would end up making your car hell to drive, and not any faster.

The AP is a great system, I have it.

Not true.. The flywheel is not hard to drive on a daily basis.. The install requires removal of the transmission.. Should take about 4-6 hours to do if you have a friend and know what you are doing.. The first time might take 8-10 to figure it all out... I personally have had a light weight flywheel on every one of my cars since I started wrenching.. As for the weight issue, the 9lb is TOO light.. I have the ACT street light which is a nice compromise.. It's not too light as to cause any pull out issues or low speed curse issues, but it's light enough to get into the power band quicker. The flywheel debate has gone on and on just like BOVs and CAIs.. If you want it, get it.. NOTE: A light weight flywheel will NOT produce more power on the Dyno, however it will fatten up the power curve getting you into your sweet spot sooner...
