300 awhp

Any suggestions on the best way to reach 300 awhp with my current engine mods?

bigger intercooler, injectors, fuel pump. and turbo. You'll hit past 300whp with a good tune on an 18g, you'll get close with a vf39, but highly doubt you'll break 300 even on a great tune.

Damn. I was hoping I had more options than the turbo upgrade. It will be a while before I have that kind of money. Oh well...

If I put a GT30r turbo, Perrin FMIC, injectors/fuel pump, and Perrin equal length headers in my car, what do you think I would be seeing for whp?

Depends on the tune... I'd say somewhere in the mid 300s maybe approaching 400. Remember though, your transmission will probably need some attention at that point. Don't be surprised if you have to spend $5-10,000 or more for that kind of build.

What turbos would you suggest? And at what point do transmission upgrades become necessary?

Let me rephrase my question... Lets say I was making about 315 whp. What mods would my tranny need at that point?

Probably none.

The transmission issue is highly debatable. There are people who have upwards of 300, 400, or more hp and haven't had issues with their stock transmissions. At the same time, there are people who have broken their stock transmissions at stock power levels. Much of it depends how you drive it - do you mash the gas and bang through the gears or shift smoothly and apply power steadily? Remember though, it only really takes one episode of extreme abuse for things to break. I guess my point is, the WRX transmissions are not the strongest in the world. The more power you push through it, the chances of it breaking increase, obviously. I would just advise you to have some money saved up to either replace parts when they break or upgrade the transmission completely if you plan on making big power numbers.

to piggyback off mfarnham, what would one need to get an automatic WRX up in hp? Same mods? Other ones?

I have 326 AWHP with my 20G (and supporting mods), been driving for almost or around 8k miles and no problems. I have room to grow with mine, or so my last tuner said. Im getting ready to put more cash into the car, the transmission alone is going to cost around $5500.

As far as the 4EAT goes. I knew a guy running 350AWHP with an AVO 380 turbo, FMIC, fp, TBE, not sure on the injectors. The only transmission upgrade he had was a tranny cooler. He had been running the car like that and at the track for over a year.
